I am writing to complain about the behavior of the staff at Sugarhouse Vetco, predominantly Scott McMullin.
I have been a loyal Petco and Vetco customer for 5 years. I have only taken my cat here. But as of today, I will no longer be a patron at Vetco or Petco.
Today I had scheduled a dental cleaning for my cat with Scott McMullin. My partner went in yesterday for our scheduled 12 pm bloodwork. The Vetco staff told us they would call with the blood work results. No one ever called about the bloodwork or to help me and my pet prepare for the dental cleaning the following morning. In fact, the appointments under Vetco were marked as missed, but we attended both appointments on time.
So when I showed up at 8 am the following day and transferred to the care of the vet staff, there were no issues. About 10 minutes later, the vet, Mr. Scott McMullin, called saying they could no longer perform the procedure because she had eaten this morning. When I brought up the issue that no one alerted me of the proper pre-surgery procedure, Mr. McMullin was cold and apathetic. He said the only option was to reschedule, which upset me because this error was a failure of his staff and clinic. When I asked Mr. McMullin for clarification on the proper procedure for notifying clients about communications between bloodwork and surgery so we could avoid this mishap in the future, he said they had called me. I told him I checked my texts, emails, and phone calls and had not received any notification and expressed further concerns. Not once did Mr. McMullin acknowledge how frustrating the situation was nor did he apologize for the inconvenience due to the failure of this team.
I was upset because I did not have the flexibility to pick up my cat today so now I had to leave her boarded without access to food. She is extremely anxious and hates the vet, and I was distressed to be putting her in a strange and distressing environment due to my vet's gross negligence. The lack of empathy and attention to my cat's well-being, as well as my own feelings as a distressed pet owner was alarming and unprofessional. Mr.McMullin ended the call by hanging up on me with no help to resolve the issue. He said that he was busy with other surgeries and had no time to help me. I found that surprising to believe since now one of his surgeries for my own pet was cancelled, therefore, it seemed he could take the five minutes to help me determine the next steps for my pet's care.
I had to recall the Vetco line and after many transfers, got back to the front office receptionist at the Sugarhouse Vetco, Kennedy. Kennedy was extremely kind and empathetic. They confirmed I did not receive a proper call after bloodwork, apologized that my pet and I were not properly taken care of, and then assured me they would keep an eye on my pet and feed her during her normal mealtime to ease her anxiety and provide comfort.
I understand mistakes happen, we are all human, but I do not feel my pet and I were treated fairly by Mr. McMullin. I want to complain because I found his behavior unprofessional, unethical, and unempathetic.
Please do not bring your pets here unless you want condescending vets who are unable to set aside their fragile egos to actually help pets and customers.
