  I can only speak to my experience but Al is our favorite cashier! My dog is super weary about strangers and she loves when he’s working! He remembers her and my boyfriends dog by name and gives them lots of treats 😊

  I took a long time to decide whether or not to write this review, but something happened about a little over a week ago that reinforced my need to write it. This review deals with the cashier named Al who in my opinion is one of the most insufferable store employees I have ever had to deal with. I spend anywhere from $250-$300 a month which comes out to several thousand dollars a year in Petco and because of him, I am strongly considering switching to Chewy delivery. I won't go into the two times previous unpleasant experience I had with him because it would make this lengthy review ridiculously more lengthy, but I will explain what happened the next time I went to Petco in Sugar House. I purposely went on a Saturday so as to not have do deal with Al because I have only seen him work weekdays. As I approached the glass doors and looked over to my left and saw he was the cashier I sighed an audible sigh and guess I made a distressed face unconsciously. A lady about 45-50 years old coming out of Petco saw me and said to me, "the cashier right?' I said, "Have you had a bad experience with him also?" We then stepped outside the store and exchanged stories. We both and bad experiences with his attitude, and BOTH had experiences with him making a bizarre remark to us while we were at the register and then talking about his "girlfriend" while then showing us a picture of a woman on his phone. In my case the picture of the woman on his phone appeared to be no more than 18 years old and in the other customer's case she said the woman appeared to be 40 ish. We both as customers found this to be inappropriate. He needs to stop this behavior as it is inappropriate for the workplace. The other customer said she tries to come on weekend evenings because Al is usually not there. Knowing that there are others who have had such bad experiences with this Al is what prompted me to write this review. My bigger issue with him is his overall negative attitude and if he doesn't like you, he basically throws your stuff in your reusable bags. On my last occasion in, I had to ask another employee to speak to a manager. I explained that I did not want to be rung up by him. It turned out that employee said she was the manager on duty and she stopped what she was doing and took me to the front to complete my transaction. I wish I could remember her name because she was great and a great representative of Petco. Somebody needs to talk to this guy and tell him to start being decent to customers and no one needs to see his alleged various "girlfriends."

  Extremely unprofessional and disappointing experience. The groomers clearly do not know how to properly handle dogs with different temperaments. If you work in the grooming industry, you should expect to deal with calm, energetic, anxious, nervous, elderly, and even difficult dogs. That is part of the job. Instead of showing patience, professionalism, and knowing how to work with a nervous or difficult dog, they essentially gave up. What is even more disappointing is that they themselves told me to find an independent groomer instead. If you care about your dog and expect professional, patient, and competent handling, I strongly recommend taking your pet somewhere else. I would not trust this place with my dog again. Save yourself and your dog the stress and find a groomer who actually knows how to handle dogs.

  Fake Pricing - I bought one item when I checked out at cashier’s being told it’s $21 however Petco website clearly listed it for $15.99 (original price). I asked the cashier why in-store price is much higher, he was impatiently answering: You need to ASK FOR website price then we can give you that. How hilarious. THIS IS FRAUD.

  Good store. Lots of cat and dog foods, toys, treats, etc available. Wish they had a bigger selection of decor, hides, etc for tarantulas/reptiles. They were out of ALL feeder crickets when I was there though, which is not good! They said it was a supplier issue, effecting many if not all other pet stores in the area. Employees were friendly. Hope they get crickets soon.
