- JCJason ConnellJun 16, 20261.0Petco in Layton normally cuts my Shih Tzu's hair and grooms him. My dog is 2 years old and tends to naw at brushes and hands, but never bites hard. Today they wanted to reschedule our appointment 50 minutes before the appointment because a new groomer was afraid of the dog. Granted this is the first time Ive heard of a complaint. These groomers deal with dogs all the time, why are they afraid of a little Shih Tzu? Makes no sense and why did they hire someone so brand new to grooming, they cant groom a shih tzu sized dog? I understand being afraid of a Chow, but not a Shih Tzu. The poor planning on their part, the inexperience of their team, and their quick-to-shave my dog when they find some matted hair, have led me to cancel all business with Petco and seek grooming elsewhere. They got muzzles for a reason. If they are afraid of a Shih Tzu, do you want them grooming your dog?
- MXMARY CO XMay 24, 20262.0Nails not trimmed. Haircut was very uneven and in some places not cut at all. His tail wasn’t trimmed to match the twist of his hair. His neck was only shaved on one side.

One of my dogs gets nervous with the nail trimming and Yesika was able to get all her nails perfectly! They really loved her and I'll definitely be requesting her from now on 😁

After coming to petco for the first time in nov of 2025 for a bath and nail trim with Keilana, my guy has been terrified to go to get his nails trimmed. Before his experience at peto he never had issues going to get his nails trimmed. His behavior around getting his nails trimed unfortunately changed after his experience at petco and im still working on getting him back to his normal self/behavior before his experience here.
