I had a very concerning experience with a trainer named Jill at this location yesterday during a scheduled puppy training class. I came in happy and excited to start training, and did nothing to warrant the way I was treated. From the start, her tone was dismissive and condescending. She made derogatory comments about my dog’s breed and repeatedly told me this class was not right for him, even after I explained that a Petco employee recommended it based on his age and that he had already aged out of the puppy class.
Instead of offering any guidance, she spoke to me with her back turned and repeatedly asked what I expected to get out of the class. When I asked what the class entails, she responded with, “what did you sign up for?” She offered no help, no direction, and then stated that if all my dog knows how to do is sit, then this isn’t the class for him. She made no attempt to assess him, redirect, or provide any alternatives. The entire interaction felt disrespectful, unprofessional, and extremely uncomfortable. I have never experienced anything like this.
When I told her I was no longer comfortable continuing, she handed my paperwork back and walked away. I remained in the store for about 30 minutes trying to get assistance from a manager. Gene, the store manager, was professional and processed a refund, which I am still waiting to receive, but that does not change how the situation was handled.
I also left a review immediately after this experience yesterday, and it has since been removed. Shortly after, a new review appeared praising Jill, which is concerning given the timing. I have not received any follow-up from corporate, and I have reached out to both the district manager and the GM. I truly hope Petco addresses this, because based on this experience, I would not feel comfortable returning and would not recommend Jill as a trainer.
