Honestly, this has been one of the most frustrating and upsetting experiences I have ever had with a veterinary hospital. I brought my 9-year-old dog on June 10th, to Banfield Pet Hospital in Hutto because I noticed what I thought was a bug bite underneath his right eye. After approximately 15 minutes of examining him, I was told that the swelling and pus were actually coming from an infected tooth.
On June 13, I brought him back to have his teeth cleaned. During the dental procedure, I received a phone call from the doctor explaining that there was an infected tooth that needed to be extracted and that the additional cost would be approximately $800. At the time, I simply did not have an extra $800 available, so I declined the extraction.
About a week later, I called Banfield to schedule the extraction. I was under the impression that the cost would be around the same amount I was originally quoted. Instead, I was given a completely different and significantly higher quote, because I was now being told I would have to pay for another dental cleaning and anesthesia.
What was extremely frustrating is that I was never properly informed that by declining the extraction during that dental procedure, I would potentially have to pay for another dental cleaning and another round of anesthesia if I came back later to have the tooth extracted.
I was understandably very upset and asked to speak with the doctor who originally gave me the $800 quote. I was told that she “only works once a month at that specific location.” I was then told I could get a third quote, and that this would be the final quote.
At this point, my dog was clearly uncomfortable. The swelling and infection were affecting him, and I wasn’t going to continue waiting while he was in pain. I ultimately agreed to pay approximately $1,100 for two extractions.
During the procedure, I received another phone call from the veterinarian. I was told that they had approved two additional extractions at no additional charge. Of course, I said yes. I didn’t care about the number of teeth at that point I wanted whatever needed to be done to make my dog comfortable and healthy.
I trusted that the infected teeth causing the swelling had been taken care of.
Fast forward to August 20, 2026, I noticed the swelling underneath my dog’s eye coming back.
The exact same issue I originally brought him in for in June was happening again.
I immediately scheduled another appointment for August 31 because I was extremely concerned. I brought him back to Banfield expecting them to figure out what was going on.
During this appointment, the veterinarian came into the room and told me that he didn’t see any extractions listed in my dog’s records. I was obviously confused because I had just paid approximately $1,100 for extractions at this same hospital. Then another person came into the room and said that my dog’s records weren’t loading.
Eventually, they were able to access the records.
And this is where I became absolutely furious. The tooth that is now infected and causing the swelling is THE SAME TOOTH I ORIGINALLY BROUGHT MY DOG IN FOR IN JUNE. The extractions that were performed were on the completely opposite side of his mouth.
So after paying approximately $1,100 for extractions that I was led to believe were addressing the problem, my dog is now back with the SAME swelling, caused by the SAME tooth that was identified back in June and I am now being quoted ANOTHER $800 to have that tooth extracted.
I am incredibly frustrated by the lack of communication and the way this entire situation was handled. I trusted that when I paid over $1,000 for dental work, the original problem we brought him in for was being addressed.
The communication throughout this entire process has been extremely disappointing. I sincerely hope management looks into exactly what happened here, because this should not happen to another pet owner. Extremely disappointing experience. I would not recommend Banfield Pet Hospital in Hutto at all.
And yes, I have proof of this ALL.

I had such a great experience with Hutto Banfield Pet Hospital! I unfortunately had to bring both of my dogs in after they got into a fight and ended up with some lacerations. They were able to accommodate us with a drop-off appointment at 9 a.m., and I was able to pick them back up around 4 p.m.
From start to finish, everyone was wonderful. The front desk staff was incredibly kind and helpful, the vet techs were great, and the doctor was absolutely amazing. I felt like my babies were genuinely cared for and in great hands throughout the entire process.
I will definitely be coming back and using Banfield anytime my primary vet isn’t available. Thank you so much to the entire team for taking such wonderful care of my babies during a stressful situation. You guys have an amazing staff, and I truly appreciate everything you did for us! ❤️🐾

First time here with appointment and I couldn’t stay more than 2 minutos with my two dogs because receptionist didn’t want to receive more patients. Very bad experience.

I’ve been taking both my dogs to Banfield in Hutto for almost 3 years now. I love it! Staff has always been super friendly and some know our dogs by name. Dr. Carela is amazing, I was always skeptical about moving Banfield locations and I’m so glad the Hutto location has been nothing but amazing with us!
