Gastrointestinal illness diagnosis and treatment

Gastrointestinal illness treatment at Banfield Pet Hospital® starts with identifying the underlying cause – which can range from dietary issues to infections – and then providing appropriate therapy such as diet changes, fluid therapy, or medication.

At Banfield Pet Hospital®, we provide microchipping for pets. This process involves inserting a chip under the pet's skin, with a unique ID that can help reunite lost pets with their owners.

Parasite control

Parasite treatment at Banfield Pet Hospital® may involve administering medication to eradicate and prevent parasites, such as fleas, ticks, and worms, that infest or infect animals.

Spaying and neutering

At Banfield Pet Hospital®, spaying (for females) and neutering (for males) are surgical procedures performed under anesthesia. These procedures can help prevent unwanted breeding and may reduce the risk of certain cancers and behavioral issues in pets.

My babies have been coming to Banfield since they were puppies. I recently moved and began bringing them to this location and all I can say is, this team (Dr. Luu, Lauren, Jenna, and everyone else) are so kind and caring, it's beyond comforting. As my fur babies get older and need more attentive care, these ladies are commendable for their communication, transparency as well as urgency. I appreciate them SO much. We are so happy to have lucked out to have them within arms reach. Thank you once again for taking care of my Gus, Rocko, and Bruno! <3

I want to start by saying the veterinarian was kind, thorough, and I agreed with the recommended treatment plan for my dog. My frustration is with Banfield’s billing practices, not the medical care itself. My dog’s treatment required three Panoquell injections over three consecutive days. The medication itself costs approximately $200 per injection, which I understood and agreed to. What I don’t agree with is Banfield charging an additional office visit fee of about $58 for each injection. These are not new medical evaluations or separate appointments. They are simply the continuation of the treatment plan the veterinarian prescribed. In order for my dog to receive the complete course of treatment, I’m being charged an extra $120 to $175 in office visit fees on top of an already $600+ treatment plan. When I questioned the charges, I was told they were required because the doctor had to perform a physical exam each day. However, my invoice shows “Physical Exam Follow Up” at $0, while I was still charged an “Office Visit Follow Up” fee. That explanation doesn’t match the billing. The veterinarian also explained that the medication is not FDA approved as a one or two dose treatment and requires the full three injection protocol. If Banfield’s doctors are following FDA recommendations, owners should not feel penalized with repeated office visit charges simply to complete the prescribed treatment. To make matters more frustrating, my estimate for the remaining treatment included additional charges that were not part of the original treatment discussion. I have no issue paying for quality veterinary care. I do have an issue with fees that feel unnecessary and are only incurred because my pet must return to complete the treatment the doctor prescribed. Banfield should reconsider this policy because it creates the impression that the hospital is prioritizing revenue over making medically necessary treatment affordable.

I brought my three pets here for a year - all on wellness plans. We have been very loyal customers, even though we have not had the best luck with our cat's care here. My credit card was stolen, and a $98 charge did not go through. Banfield called, and I asked if I could bring the new card in when it arrived after I returned from traveling. I was told yes. The day I returned (13 days after the declined charge), I received a call that they were sending the $98 to collections unless I paid the balance within 24 hours. I immediately took a new card in and shared that it felt like poor customer service to send me to collections over $98 while I was traveling, after I'd spent thousands there. They said it was out of their control and didn't care about retaining our business or continuing to care for our pets. They just gave me a number to cancel the wellness plans. Unfortunately, you cannot cancel the wellness plans without a hefty charge for each pet, so you are trapped. Most of the assistants are friendly and care about the animals, but I've had less-than-stellar experiences with the veterinarians and management.
