Employees were short staffed and could not provide curbside in a timely manner. The lady employee was apologetic.

Strange and disappointing experience at Petco today. My son's fish died 2 days after purchasing it. Not a tremendously big deal as these things do happen. So, we took the dead fish back to the store to exchange it, which is where the customer service oddities began. There were no associates at the registers, so we went to go find someone. The first worker we saw, we paused and explained out situation. She offered no apology, expressed no compassion to my son (which I found surprising). She just looked at me with a deadpan face and said curtly, "Follow me." She walks off withuis in tow over to the fish. I'm trying to help my son make a decision, a little unsure of whether he was feeling grief or not. The woman just stared and, after about 30 seconds asked, "Which one do you want?" again with no emotion at all. He chose one; she bagged it up, turned away from us and made for the register. It was only at this point that she said, "I'll help you at the register." Now this treatment I found to be downright rude and utterly devoid of basic respect. We walked up to the registers and she was gone. Like...ghosted. There was another, slightly older woman at the register, so I mentioned to her that the associate helping us had disappeared. She looked at me and said "She was supposed to be off at 3, so she actually stayed over for you." I blinked in shock. Was she arguing with me?!? I did not know what to say. We had been treated disrespectfully, helped at the bare minimum with our purpose for the visit, and then abandoned entirely. No explanation. No hand-off to another crew member. And this chick has the hutzpah to explain to me the she had actually done me a favor by staying past her end of shift?!?!? Are you kidding me? An older associate probably in her 60s came onto the scene and motioned us to her register. "I can help you over here," she said. She checked us out, and as we were turning to leave, offered, "I'm sorry." Now, this was the first customer service I had received the entire time. I thanked her and we left. I cannot figure out whether Petco has completely abandoned their associate training in soft skills or whether we just ran into an unfortunate coincidence of 2 women prepared to give us their very worst. I'll find another pet store from now on.

My mother went in to buy some snails for her tank and told a worker. He told her what aisle to go to but what is she supposed to do with that? What tank are they in? And Is she supposed to reach in and grab them herself? That’s very unprofessional and confusing. She went to the front and waited to try to talk to someone else and no one ever showed up. Definitely not going back to this location.
