I went there today because my dog was at the ER yesterday. I went to drop off the ER papers and to request an appointment and an estimate for blood work — something they have given me in the past. The front desk staff were rude and refused to give me an estimate, saying they were “just secretaries.” The phones were ringing nonstop, and it was obvious they were overwhelmed and not able to handle the pressure.
I asked if a nurse or doctor could possibly guide me since the front staff clearly couldn’t. Later, a nurse called me and said the doctor felt it was “unacceptable” that I walked in to bring the ER papers and make an appointment. Instead of politely explaining any policy or even asking how my dog was doing, she was immediately hostile.
I’ve had all my dogs treated there over the years and have never been treated so poorly.
The nurse didn’t greet me or show any compassion — she immediately began attacking me for coming in to drop off the papers and trying to speak to someone who actually knows what they’re doing. My dog is really sick, and all I was trying to do was make an appointment and make sure they had her ER information.
NOBODY answered the phone even once when I called, so I felt it was necessary to go in and drop off the papers.
Not once did any of the staff show compassion, and I remained composed the entire time. Shame on you all.

Wait time was long with a scheduled appt. I needed to be on a call an hr and 15 mins after said appt. While waiting for test results I headed to the lobby to ask if I could pay so that I could run out the door as I hadn’t expected to be there so long. The desk clerk was pretty rude and said well appointments take time. The appointment was actually quicker than the wait time. Pricey too. Other than that the vet was amazing and the girl who took care of us was too! Cut kitties nail for free.

If I could leave 0 stars, I would. This review is not directed toward the veterinarians, but rather Meghan, the office manager.
Unfortunately, every interaction I have had with Meghan has been disappointing. Customer service is a major part of any veterinary practice, and each time I have spoken with her, I have felt like I was inconveniencing her simply by calling with questions about my pets care.
My first experience with her was particularly frustrating. A few months ago, I called regarding my cat’s prescription renewal about a month and a half before it was due to run out. Meghan told me, “You don’t need to call, it automatically updates itself,” and the conversation ended almost immediately. When the prescription did not renew, I called back and spoke with Tammy, who was kind and helpful. She informed me that an appointment was actually required before the prescription could be renewed. As the office manager, I was disappointed that I was not given the correct information from the beginning.
More recently, I had questions about a probiotic my dog is taking. After doing some research, I sent a message through the office and later returned a missed call. Meghan answered, and when I asked a simple question about the medication, her response was, “I can’t answer that. I guess I’ll send Dr. Nate another message.” While I understand that some questions need a veterinarian’s input, the way the interaction was handled felt dismissive and unhelpful.
I don’t call the office because I want to take up someone’s time, I call because I have legitimate questions regarding my pets health and care. It is disappointing when those concerns are met with impatience or a lack of professionalism. The veterinarians and other staff members I have encountered have been wonderful, which makes these experiences stand out even more.
At this point, my repeated interactions with Meghan have made me seriously consider finding a different veterinary practice. I hope management takes this feedback seriously, as a welcoming and helpful front office experience is just as important as the care provided by the medical staff.
Frequently Asked Questions About Stanglein Veterinary Clinic
How often should my pet have a wellness exam?
We recommend annual wellness exams for healthy pets, and more frequent visits for seniors or those with ongoing health issues.
Is anesthesia safe for my pet during surgery or a dental procedure?
Our doctors carefully choose anesthetic protocols tailored to the individual patient's needs and health status. We have continuous patient monitoring to ensure your pet's safety and comfort every step of the procedure.
Do you see exotics?
We do occasionally see rabbits and other pocket pets. Call our office so we can accommodate specific appointment needs.
Where can I dispose of my pet's unused medication?
Stanglein Vet is not authorized for the collection and disposal of unused medicines. Dispose of unwanted or expired medications, including prescription controlled substances, through authorized take-back programs, mail-back programs, and collection receptacles. You can also check in with local pharmacies, contact the DEA field office, or search online for authorized pharmaceutical disposal sites. You can also visit UnwantedMeds.org.
Do you do health certificates?
Yes, we do both interstate and international health certificates for dogs, cats, and other small mammals. While interstate health certificates require only a single visit, international health certificates can be a complicated process requiring multiple visits and tests over six or more months, depending on the country a pet is traveling to. Since the requirements are made by the importing country, we also recommend that you visit https://www.aphis.usda.gov/pet-travel to find out more about what is required and the timing prior to making an appointment. We can also complete the required forms for your pet's re-entry to the U.S., after traveling to a high-risk Rabies country, if needed. Please call our office if you have any additional questions.
What is a microchip, and how does it work?
A microchip is not a tracking device, but a permanent, unalterable form of identification. Most vet clinics and shelters can scan for a chip. It can be placed in our office and is most commonly done for comfort purposes under anesthesia during a spay/neuter surgery.'
Is the Rabies vaccine required?
In PA, dogs and cats must be vaccinated by three months of age. Boosters are required 1 year later, then every three years. A licensed vet can administer the vaccine. Proof includes a vaccine tag and certificate.
What should I bring to my pet's first visit?
Bring any previous vaccine records if applicable, a current list of medications, current diet information, and a comfort toy or treats. We can help determine if a stool sample is needed when making the appointment to check for intestinal parasites.
How soon will my medications be ready for pickup?
For routine medication refills, the wait time is usually 24 to 48 hours. If there is a new medication to be filled, our waiting time varies day to day.
Can my pet get heartworm in PA?
Yes. Heartworm disease is found in all 50 states and is on the rise. Heartworm is spread by mosquitoes, and since the season for mosquitoes is impossible to predict, it is important to help prevent this disease by annual testing and preventatives. Heartworm disease is life-threatening and is costly to treat. Call our office for more information on how you can keep your pets safe.
