Banfield brushed off my cat’s kidney issues. She had to be put down yesterday as a result.
This is a follow up to my previous review from two months ago. After I posted it, Banfield asked me to email them to try and resolve my frustrations. What followed was weeks of delayed, contradictory, and dismissive responses.
After repeated follow ups, I finally received answers. They were confusing and contradictory. One message implied kidney disease. Another downplayed it. They acknowledged "kidney elevations" in the bloodwork I had provided from a previous clinic, yet their head vet’s message simultaneously claimed her urine concentration was "within normal range" so there was no concern. They told me the blood in her urine was just from the needle poke during collection and called it "incidental." They told me she had no mouth inflammation from stomatitis, contradicting the previous vet's recent findings. They told me not to give steroids because it would "hurt the kidneys".. the same kidneys they were telling me weren't a serious concern.
After this they gave me a “plan" for her. Keep her on a prescription kidney diet, add more litter boxes and water bowls, and maybe consider B12 if she stops eating. No ultrasound. No follow up bloodwork. No subcutaneous fluids. No serious intervention. No urgency whatsoever. They made it seem like it wasn’t as serious as it was.
Two months pass and at the end of August, a few days ago, my cat stopped eating and drinking out of nowhere and rapidly declined. I rushed her to an emergency vet in Hershey, PA. Her body temperature was too low to even register on their thermometer. Her heart rate was dangerously low. The emergency vet told me she was too sick and that even with all the intervention in the world, it likely would not be enough. I had to say goodbye to my cat yesterday and have her put down.
Banfield had the bloodwork, her records, her medical history. They knew her creatinine was elevated. And they chose to do nothing but tell me to buy different food and add water bowls. When I tried to follow up, they ignored my messages until I pushed harder. When they finally responded, their answers were so contradictory that I had no clear idea of how serious her condition was or what to do next to help her.
I trusted them with my cat's life and they failed her. My cat April is dead because they downplayed clear warning signs and refused to take her kidney issues seriously until it was far too late.
I would not wish this experience on anyone. Do not bring your pets here.

We were told we would get lab results within a couple days after being told our cat might have cancer. Took nearly a month to finally get the results, after calling constantly for updates. Every phone call was the same: “no update, results should have been in by now, someone will call by tomorrow.” Over the course of 3+ weeks, nobody ever gave us a call back.

Why is all your responses the same? I won’t write my current situation. It’s either getting handled today! Or, my lawyer will be delivering papers! I called and called and cuz, of computer issues etc that was the excuse and turn over of Employees, I wasn’t ginent the right info… Took 4 times to get it right. I just called at 2 pm talked to original person. She was empathetic and told me Alyssa or something, would call me. Why I get a call from the nurse who seen my baby.? She can’t help. I don’t want to waste my breathe and I told her that, from the gate! I asked for her notes to record etc and she said “ I have pets in rooms can’t deal with you” hung UP! I called back 3x and they, disconnect. When I was done with the visit they couldn’t even, gine me a cost. Asked me if I had a cc on file. No one communicated to me he needed Anal glands done or discussed allergy shot. I did express, my concern about that tho. Doesn’t matter! You don’t proceed with anything, till you talk to the owner. Also! Dental was to be done and they, don’t have time and can’t schedule on line! It’s a hot mess!!!!
