Frustrating experience. I would not recommend Banfield to anyone.
This all started about a month ago, I noticed my cat was struggling to urinate and had blood in her urine. So in early June, I took her to the Harrisburg Humane Society’s low-cost vet clinic, as I didn’t have other financial options at the time. They prescribed two rounds of antibiotics for a UTI. After she finished the first round, they also ran bloodwork, which showed concerning results of high creatinine levels. The Harrisburg clinic told me these results could mean possible kidney disease and recommended I see another vet for an ultrasound and further testing.
After a family member recommended Banfield, I made an appointment with them. At my first appointment in early July, I provided all of my cat’s prior medical records, including the alarming bloodwork. None of the vets at Banfield seemed to have read these records. They only performed a routine urine test. When the results came back a few days later, they simply told me there was blood and protein in the urine.. which is exactly what the previous clinic had already told me. However Banfield vets say this was just “incidental” findings and claimed there were no kidney issues or infection.
But as of today (07/08/26), my cat has started to show a scant amount of blood in her urine again.
Banfield also contradicted the Harrisburg vet regarding my cat’s chronic stomatitis. The Harrisburg vet said she saw the mouth inflammation, which isn’t new because my cat’s medical records clearly show she has a history of chronic stomatitis and had a full mouth dental extraction years ago. When I brought this up and asked Banfield about getting her annual steroid injection for the inflammation, the Banfield vet claimed she did not have any inflammation in her mouth at all, blatantly contradicting the previous vet’s recent findings. They then advised against the steroid shot, arguing it would “cause more issues” and hurt her kidneys.. the same kidneys they had just insisted were fine?
The appointment at Banfield cost $100 and I wasn’t even allowed to go back with my pet and talk to the vet. I was there maybe 10 minutes. I left with no answers, no plan for my cat’s ongoing symptoms, and no acknowledgment of her medical history. Since then, Banfield has ignored my follow up messages and voicemails.
They did nothing to help my cat, ignored her prior records and symptoms, and gave inconsistent, incomplete advice. I’m extremely worried about my cat and at no point did I feel her health was a concern to anyone here.

...just look at the most recent reviews. It tells you the story you need to know. I have been a client for years and this past year has been terrible.... Saving the long details, I was able to cancel my membership with them at no cost to me - paying no extras and no penalties, but only after calling and calling and demanding to speak with a supervisor. The current staff that is employeed is untrained and unhelpful. They would call me back and leave a message after 5 and you call back .... But you can't get through because it's after hours. DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE MEMBERSHIP. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PETS HERE. How has corporate not acted yet? This is insane. Look at your client base suffering and leaving left and right. Fix your company before you go bankrupt! Y'all should be ahamed of yourselves, from top to bottom.
If you work here and you really care about let's - GO TO A DIFFERENT COMPANY. I can only assume they treat their employees as terrible as they treat their clients.
Just terrible.

Since moving back to the area I have been bringing my cat here, no longer will i continue. I feel as if my pet was just a number to them and when I voiced my concerns and wanted explanations regarding a decision made about my cats care, I was gave the run around and fed a line of BS so they did not have to admit fault. My family has also made the decision to pull their cats from Banfields care over this as well.

I have been with Banfield for 10 years but over the past year, service has been horrible. I have scheduled appointments and as I am walking in, they decide to give me a call and say how the doctor is unavailable. I’m not just coming from across the street, I’m driving all the way from Harrisburg and when I receive that call in the parking lot it’s only a waste of time and money. I’m never coming back EVER. I am beyond upset and aggravated at the lack of reliability at this establishment.

I have been loyal banfield customers since the day I brought my dog home almost 6 years ago. We have moved 3 times and been to 5 Banfield locations and always had great experiences and had the ease of going to multiple locations during moves, road trips, and visiting family. Unfortunately, my experience with the Mechanicsburg, PA location has been nothing but the opposite. I moved to Hershey, PA about a year ago and this was the closest location. While about 40 min away, for me it was worth the drive to stay with Banfield.
Each visit has been okay but has had some customer service issues. For example, her dental appointment was at 8 am. They said she would be ready around 12/1 and she wasn't ready until 5 pm. I've tolerated this because I understand clinics can get busy, but I am writing today to talk through a different experience that is driving me to the decision to cancel my membership and find a new vet.
At the end of April, I took my dog in for her bi annual comprehensive exam. She has been experiencing some issues recently slipping on my floors. I figured this was a joint issue, but asked them to take a look while she was here. While waiting in the room, they had her in the back for her exam for at most 5 minutes. They came back and shared that she had some arthritis and I should put her on a supplement and follow up in a few weeks if there wasn't improvement. They also were unable to get her urine sample and asked me to bring one in at a later date.
Last Saturday, 5/30/2026 I came back in with her urine sample and to follow up. Unfortunately the supplement doesn't seem to be helping. I waited for 30 minutes to drop off the sample and the employee at the desk didn't even look at me. There was no one in line in front of me, just people checking out. She proceeded to take phone calls and ignore me until she finally grabbed the sample. I then asked to follow up with the vet and if there were next steps we could take for Willow. She told me I would get a call back in 24-48 hrs with next steps.
On Monday, 6/1/2026, I called th4e clinic back because I had not heard back. The doctor wasn't going to be in until Tuesday, so they said I would hear back first thing Tuesday. I have been at work all week and have not received a call so waited until today while I was working from home to call back again.
Today, 6/5/2026, I called back to say I was still waiting to hear. I was asked if someone talked to me after my clinic visit while I was in person. I said that they told me to add the supplement. She then responded that within Willow's chart it said that the vet was unable to complete the evaluation because she was anxious and that she needed to be on an anti-inflammatory for 10 days and then to come back if it didn't help to get scans done. My response was, "That would've been great to know when I was first at the appointment, when I was in person on Saturday, Monday when I called, or directly from the Vet on Thursday when I failed to get a response".
My dog has been struggling and her Vet clearly took her back for 5 minutes and said she was too nervous and neglected to care for her or take me seriously. The mix between lack of care and horrendous customer service is why I will be leaving Banfield. I am extremely disappointed. While there is nothing you can do to change my mind. I am writing today to hope this never happens to someone again. My dog has been in pain and her care was neglected. I will forever blame Banfield for the lack of care for my dog. I am attempting to cancel her wellness plan and since we are only half way through her year, to cancel I will have to pay $450. At this point I am willing to pay that to not have to deal with Banfield again. My recommendation is STAY AWAY. They are happy to take your money, but the second you actually need care this location will not be there to help.
