I don’t typically leave negative reviews, but my recent experience with Banfield was disappointing enough that I felt it needed to be shared. I called because my dog’s eye had suddenly become swollen and was nearly swollen shut. While discussing appointment availability, the representative immediately focused on informing me that my dog was overdue for vaccines, an annual exam, and a dental cleaning. While I understand those things are important and ultimately my responsibility as a pet owner, I was calling because I was concerned about an urgent medical issue. The interaction felt dismissive and judgmental during what was already a stressful situation. After being offered an earlier appointment, I rearranged my entire day to make it work and called back immediately to secure the time slot. I called multiple times, left a voicemail, and received no answer. Out of frustration, I called from a different phone number and my call was answered right away. When I asked why my previous calls had gone unanswered, I received no explanation. What bothered me most was the lack of compassion and professionalism during a pet emergency. When owners call because something is wrong with their pet, that should be the priority. Discussions about overdue preventive care can happen, but there is a time and place for those conversations. Being made to feel guilty about overdue services while trying to seek care for a pet in distress was incredibly frustrating. For transparency, I fully acknowledge that I am responsible for keeping my dog current on vaccines, exams, and preventive care. In fact, I had already attempted to schedule those services previously but was unable to find an appointment time that worked with my schedule. I will absolutely continue doing my part to ensure my dog receives the care she deserves. However, this experience, combined with other frustrations regarding my membership, ultimately led me to cancel my Banfield plan. I understand that veterinary staff work in a demanding environment, but professionalism, empathy, and communication matter—especially when pet owners are calling with urgent concerns. I ultimately sought care elsewhere and was able to get my dog seen the same day, despite never having been a patient there before. The staff treated the situation with urgency and compassion, allowed me to remain in the room during the visit, quickly identified the issue, and provided excellent care. The difference in professionalism and empathy was significant. Our pets depend on us to advocate for them. When we’re reaching out for help during a medical concern, we deserve to feel heard, supported, and respected.

After my second visit: All of the staff here care about how to help and they couldn’t be more welcoming. Another big thing for me is I never feel judged when I tell them I can’t afford a test or vaccine. Highly recommend for your furr babies needs.
