  Witnessed the mistreatment of another persons animal at this location this morning as one of the stylist groomed a small/medium sized black dog. I have family members who are groomers and I owned a similar sized dog for over a decade and my family members would have been terminated from their positions for the behavior I witnessed. From grabbing/yanking/ the dog, NOT gently, and not according to normal grooming standards to barely move the body/face to haphazardly lifting the animal up by its lower abdomen/groin area again - not gently. Not according to responsible grooming practices at that would cause pain to the animal in the way it was handled. The animal was shaking and had its tails tucked between its legs. I've met good groomers that treat animals kindly and gently, thus this standard observed is unacceptable. Saving money by going to Petco for grooming costs more than you think - your animal being mistreated isn't worth it. Go elsewhere, pay for a groomer with a good reputation and request being present during the appointment - trustworthy groomers often let you do this. The behavioral problems and broken trust animals often display from being mistreated is costly. Petco will likely have a "politically correct" and polite response to this review from AI I assume - I reject this standard and practice of animal care. Other customers are invited to consider doing the same.

  I love all the staff members here, they are caring and have so much compassion for animals. They take their time and really get to know my dog. I love coming here they always take care of you and always want what’s best for you and your love one. Highly recommended them, I wouldn’t take my dog anywhere else.

  I have yet to have a positive experience with Petco grooming on commercial Street in Salem, Oregon. I will never go back. They seem irritated with my presence and my dog’s presence and the fact that we want services at all. They work very hard to turn us away every time. I go in for a walk-in service however I’ve been reprimanded for not making appointments and I’ve also been reprimanded for making appointments. In the time it takes them to find reasons to not trim my pups, fanny and feet they could have done the job five times. They have been rude on the phone and in person every time. I even was reprimanded for calling to cancel my appointment because I had a flat tire and had to have my car towed. They were extremely rude, even though I took my time to call them to cancel my appointment for something that was completely out of my control. Awful!!!! My dogs are the loves of my life and should never be made to feel as if they are a burden for a service that is being paid for.

  Wanted to purchase saltwater fush but employee said she doesn't catch fish. To come back tomorrow when the emplyee who works the fish & pet section would return. She had to leave early due to family emergency.
