I will not be returning to Banfield Pet Hospital in Reynoldsburg after my experience with my 13-year-old dog, Jazz. I brought Jazz in because he was having increasingly concerning breathing issues. Banfield initially quoted me $1,152 just for diagnostic testing before even establishing a diagnosis. When I questioned the cost and explained that I wanted a more focused approach, I was then told they could do chest X-rays for approximately $650. I decided not to move forward and sought a second opinion. I called Animal Medical Center of Gahanna, and they got Jazz in within two hours of my call. They examined him, performed the necessary diagnostics, diagnosed him with laryngeal paralysis (Lar Par), and provided his first month of medication. My total cost was approximately $400. The chest X-rays alone, which Banfield quoted at roughly $650, were $275 there. I understand that veterinary practices have different pricing structures, and I have no problem paying for appropriate care for my dog. My issue was that my experience at Banfield left me feeling as though the priority was maximizing the amount of testing and money spent rather than taking a thoughtful, targeted approach to determining what Jazz actually needed. But the part that bothered me most had nothing to do with money. After I told the vet tech that I would not be moving forward with the proposed procedures that day, she escorted me to the front desk and, in front of other people in the lobby, told the employee checking me out that I could not afford the treatment and therefore wasn’t going to do anything. That statement was inaccurate, presumptuous, unnecessary, and incredibly disrespectful. I never said I could not afford Jazz’s care. I made an informed decision not to spend more than $1,000 on a diagnostic plan I was not comfortable with. Those are two very different things. Even if finances had been the reason, discussing a client’s presumed financial situation aloud in a public lobby would still have been inappropriate. The fact that another veterinary clinic was able to see Jazz within hours, diagnose his condition, perform chest X-rays, examine him, and provide his initial medication for less than Banfield quoted me for the X-rays alone only reinforced my decision. Pet owners deserve to be able to ask questions about recommended testing and costs without being judged, embarrassed, or characterized as unwilling or unable to care for their animals. Jazz deserved thoughtful care, and I deserved basic respect as his owner. Unfortunately, I did not feel that we received either at Banfield Reynoldsburg. I will not be returning.

Got to the office on time for the appointment. Waited 36 mins to have a vet tech to come in. Not a single word of saying sorry about the wait from any of the staff members. Outside of the doctor, they seemed all seemed annoyed to even interact with a customer & lacked basic courtesy. And vet tech noted that I thought my cat had rabies before on SOAP note for the insurance due to miscommunication, which he never had, which apparently is a legal note and they can’t fix it. And now it’s going to follow my cat around. Just using this location for ASAP appointment only if needed.

Honestly, I’ve never had such a bad experience at a pet hospital. I made an appointment to get my cat updated on her vaccines and included a note that her eye seemed irritated. By the time of the appointment—five days later—her eye was completely back to normal with no signs of irritation. When I dropped her off, they asked about her eye and said they wanted to perform a $100 exam. I explained that it wasn’t necessary because her eye was completely fine. The veterinary technician initially argued that they couldn’t skip the exam, then finally said, “I guess I can mark that you declined the treatment.” I said, “Great, let’s do that.” Later that afternoon, my boyfriend picked her up, and we found out they performed the exam anyway and expected me to pay for it. If they had examined her, noticed something concerning, and called to explain why they recommended the additional exam, I likely would have approved it. Instead, they never contacted me and went ahead with a service I had already declined. I don’t think it’s acceptable to perform a declined service and then expect the owner to pay for it. Thankfully, I stood my ground and did not pay for the exam. This experience left a really bad impression. It felt more like making money than respecting a client’s decisions, and that’s disappointing. As pet owners, we trust veterinary professionals to communicate honestly and obtain consent before performing additional services. I won’t be returning, and I hope sharing my experience helps other pet owners know to ask questions and advocate for themselves and their pets.

The staff is friendly..but when one quotes a price for a service/surgery..get the quote as close to actual price as possible..nothing like being told one price..then end up paying double because of charges for every little thing..its a giant kick in the junk..leaves a foul taste and will open avenues to go somewhere else
