My family is absolutely devastated by what happened to Brooklyn.
Brooklyn was my aunt’s 7-year-old Yorkie, weighing just over 7 pounds. She went into this Vetco clinic happy and healthy for what was supposed to be a routine vaccination appointment. Less than 24 hours later, she began having serious difficulty breathing and died in my aunt’s arms.
I understand that complications can happen with any medical treatment, and I am not writing this review to claim that I personally know exactly what caused Brooklyn’s death. But the timing is extremely concerning and deserves to be taken seriously and thoroughly investigated. How does a healthy little dog go in for routine preventative care and pass away less than a day later?
After what happened, I started reading through other reviews of this location, including some of the negative experiences people have shared, and it only added to my concern.
Brooklyn wasn’t “just a dog.” She was deeply loved and part of our family. My aunt is heartbroken, and Brooklyn’s companion Bella is now without the dog she spent her life with.
I sincerely hope Vetco review everything surrounding Brooklyn’s appointment—the vaccines administered, her records, the procedures followed, and the care she received—and give my aunt the answers she deserves.
If you bring a small dog here for vaccinations, please ask questions, understand what is being administered, and pay very close attention to your pet afterward.
Brooklyn deserved to come home. 💔🐾

Dear Mr. Anderson,
I am writing to you with a heart full of grief to share a devastating experience I had at one of your Vetco clinics.
On August 30, 2026 I brought my two beloved Yorkies—9 year-old Bella and 7 year-old Brooklyn—to Vetco for their scheduled vaccinations. My little Brooklyn, who weighed only 7.2 pounds, was a healthy and cherished companion. Following the administration of the vaccines, I was informed that she might experience some mild symptoms.
Tragically, within 24 hours, my worst nightmare came true. The very next day, Brooklyn began to hyperventilate, and she passed away in my arms while we were traveling home from Long Island to New York City. I am absolutely devastated by this loss; she was the love of my life. I buried her in my backyard just yesterday.
As I took a day off from work for the death of my beautiful Brooklyn an have the time to give her a proper burial.
This experience has left me with profound questions regarding the care provided at your facilities. I would like to know what specific qualifications and training the staff at that Vetco location have to administer vaccinations to small, senior dogs like Brooklyn. It is incomprehensible to me that a routine visit for preventative care resulted in the death of my pet the very next day.
The loss of Brooklyn has not only caused me immense pain, but it has also left my other dog, Bella, without her lifelong companion. I am now faced with the difficult task of trying to help Bella adjust to this sudden void, which may even necessitate finding a new companion for her so she can continue to live a normal life as Bella is blind.
I am reaching out to you directly because I need to understand how this could have happened. I am also seeking to know what steps Petco intends to take to address this tragedy and alleviate the pain and hardship this has caused me.
I look forward to your prompt response regarding this matter.
Sincerely,
Mirian Mueller
