  Our review is for dog trainer Colton who provides group and 1x1 classes at the 2nd Ave Petco. Colton has a special talent for working with dogs. From day one, his patience with our pup was incredible. You can immediately tell he genuinely understands dog behavior and isn't just following a rigid script. What impressed us most was how quickly he built a real connection with our dog—she warmed up to him instantly, and the progress we’ve seen in such a short time is amazing. Colton also took the time to make sure we felt confident continuing the training at home, and helped us understand everything we need to do. If you’re looking for a skilled, compassionate trainer who actually gets results, Colton is the real deal!

  I was deeply disturbed by the conditions in which animals are kept at this store. The animals, particularly the parrots and other birds, are displayed in the basement, in an environment with no windows and no access to natural sunlight. They also appear to be overcrowded, confined in small spaces that seem completely inadequate for their needs. Birds are intelligent, sensitive animals that need appropriate space, stimulation, and an environment that supports their physical and psychological well-being. Seeing them kept in these conditions is heartbreaking. Animals should not be treated as merchandise, especially when their basic needs are seemingly being overlooked. I strongly believe that the sale of exotic animals, including birds, should be prohibited. At the very least, businesses selling animals must be held to strict welfare standards that ensure adequate space, natural light, and proper living conditions. Please think twice before supporting a business that keeps animals this way. No animal deserves to spend its life confined in a basement without access to natural light. This is deeply upsetting and should not be acceptable in a city like New York.

  Very well laid out store, with separation for Cat and Dog products by level. One store clerk in particular, Sabrina, was incredibly helpful on two different occasions when I needed help with my dog. I went in initially to find some wound care spray for an injury on my dog's paw, which she was very thorough in helping me find and even held my items at the register when I said I hadn't been able to find a particular product I was also looking for (with her directions I was able to find it! I had walked straight past it of course lol). The second time I came back looking for calming treat recommendations. Sabrina remembered me and my dog from the few days prior and had incredibly helpful suggestions while navigating the large inventory stock they had in store. She was also very sweet with my dog and he adored her in equal measure. 10/10 I will be back!

  Staff are typically friendly and I like supporting shops in my neighborhood but there was low stock/little selection in cat treats I needed.

  I brought my dog, Jimmy, to the Turtle Bay Petco for grooming on September 2. From the moment I arrived, the groomer, Elyssa E., was unnecessarily rude, hostile, and argumentative, first over Jimmy’s vaccination records, even though I had emailed them beforehand and contacted his veterinarian from inside the store. I had just undergone surgery, and her treatment of me was so cruel that she actually reduced me to tears. I should have trusted my instincts and taken Jimmy home, but the grooming area was entirely glass and out in the open, so I believed he would be safe. After picking him up, I discovered that his lower stomach and groin had been shaved extremely closely. A veterinarian has since confirmed that Jimmy suffered severe razor burn during this grooming appointment. Today, September 5, 2026, I had to take Jimmy back to the veterinarian because the razor burn has now opened into an open sore and become infected. He is now being treated with a prescription steroid ointment and a 14 day course of antibiotics because of the injury he sustained at Petco. I have reported this incident to Petco Ethics and requested that Petco preserve and review the store’s surveillance footage, including Jimmy’s entire grooming appointment. Given the groomer’s hostility toward me beforehand and the condition Jimmy was returned in, I am deeply concerned that her anger toward me affected the way my dog was treated. I have previously had positive experiences with Petco, including at the Union Square and Flatiron locations, which makes what happened at Turtle Bay even more disturbing. Whether this was extreme carelessness or something worse, Jimmy was seriously injured while in this store’s care, and other pet owners deserve to know.
