I am truly not the type of person who writes negative reviews, but my recent experience at the Mount Vernon Vetco location was extremely disappointing due to the lack of communication, empathy, and professionalism shown throughout the visit.
During my first appointment with Dr. Persaud, both the technician and doctor were wonderful. They communicated clearly, explained every step of the process, and made me feel confident about my cat's care. Unfortunately, this visit was the complete opposite.
It was immediately apparent that there was significant miscommunication among the staff. There seemed to be confusion regarding my cat's chart notes, especially with the type of blood work being ordered. While the technician appeared to be doing her best, the communication between the doctor and technician was virtually nonexistent.
My cat and I spent nearly two hours in the clinic because of an issue with the in-house blood panel. Despite the lengthy wait, updates were minimal. At one point, I was told they were unable to obtain blood properly and that I would need to return for another visit, despite the fact that I had traveled from another borough and had already made a previous trip weeks earlier on Memorial Day.
The doctor only entered the room after I requested that the blood test fee be waived. The technician informed me that the blood work had not been completed successfully, yet the doctor subsequently stated that the blood work was completed. The conflicting information was frustrating and concerning. To make matters worse, I was then told that the results indicated there may be something wrong with my cat and that I would need to follow up at another time, without much explanation or reassurance.
What stood out most was the lack of empathy from everyone involved—the front desk staff, the technician, and the doctor. As a pet owner concerned about my cat's health, I expected better communication, compassion, and professionalism.
Another concerning moment occurred while I was waiting to check out. A couple entered the clinic intending to make a complaint regarding a previous visit. They stated that they had initially been told their cat was suffering from allergies, but after seeking a second opinion elsewhere, they were informed that the issue was actually cancer. Hearing another pet owner express concerns about a potential misdiagnosis only added to my unease regarding the quality of care and communication at this location. As someone who was already frustrated by the conflicting information I received about my own cat's care, this interaction further undermined my confidence in the clinic.
Overall, this was an incredibly frustrating and unprofessional experience. Between the poor communication, conflicting information regarding my cat's blood work, the lack of empathy shown throughout the visit, and the concerns I witnessed from other pet owners, I left feeling far less confident in the care being provided at this location than I did after my first visit.
I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with the manager regarding what occurred and how this situation can be addressed moving forward.

I had a great experience visiting this location. The staff is so friendly and helpful. Anderson was a great help for me today. He went above and beyond to help my dog get the things he needs, all while staying in my budget range. It was a really good experience and i definitely recommend this hospital! I will be back :) thank you so much!

I come to this Vetco for my dog's care and being a first time dog mom, I have to say that my experience here has been very reassuring. I tried 2 other Vet's offices that were closer to home, and neither worked out. So I came back to this Vetco and I have no regrets. Good care is worth the drive. The staff is always polite, helpful, and they genuinely love animals. This is very important because if you're a new parent like me, you want to be sure that your baby is cared for when taken out of your view. I have total confidence in the staff at this Vetco and I would absolutely recommend them for your pet.

I had a rough experience at this vetco. Cancelled or moved appointments and when I brought in my 5 week old kitten, I was told he was very underweight - this was based on the fact that when touching his side they could feel his ribs. You can feel his ribs but they are covered by a very healthy layer of fat and they are NOT protruding in anyway to signify that he is underweight or not getting fed enough. He weighs 1.7lbs at 5 weeks old, very on target by 3 other vets. I have also raised multiple neonatal kittens before so this is not my first rodeo. I was told that he needs to eat more and that when they took him back they gave him a Churu and he scarfed it down (so he MUST be starved at home 🙄) however he has never had any type of treats before so he was probably excited to try a treat. The appointment was early so he didn’t finish his morning feeding (he still ate) but everything was healthy with him. I do not appreciate the accusations of underfeeding my cat. I told them that when he was about 3 weeks old I took him to the ER vet but nothing was found to be wrong with him and everything was preventative. Which they took as he was dehydrated and it was life saving treatment. I don’t appreciate interpreting factual information in a different way that makes me, the owner, look terrible when it is anything but that. I called back to see if the 3lbs for a 5 week old kitten was standard in this office and was told by the front desk lady that 2 other vet techs said no and that his 1.7lb weight was pretty on target for his age. I get it is opinionated as they cannot see my kitten, however there already is a gap in information to me. This genuinely makes me question the quality of care that I received if vet techs and vets at this place are not on the same page and I am getting VERY different accounts on my cat’s weight. They also put in my cats after vet summary that he was a girl (which is false) and reported his age wrong in two places. This is just messy and there is no attention to detail when dealing with a life.
If you want lack of information, constant cancellations, misinformed staff, no one taking you seriously and invalidating your concerns, and accusations of under feeding your pet when they’re slightly overweight this is definitely the vet for you!

I found the whole staff incredibly kind patient and helpful. There was a mixup on the phone. I called to make an appointment to bring my my two cats so they scheduled the appointment but I have said PetSmart that I was booking with so they inadvertently canceled the appointment they made for me. After I arrived , they sorted out the mistake on my part and they gave me the first appointment of the day with a smile that made me feel good. I had just been turned down with an Uber cause I had cats and had to wait for another Uber so when they made the appointment with a smile that just made my day. 🥰🥰🥰 The Doctor, Dr. Prasad and the tech Kylie just as lovely . Kylie was very friendly towards me and my pets and would explain things to me as well as the doctor without getting annoyed that I was asking too many questions. they also didn’t rush me to make decisions as to what services I was going to accept. I couldn’t ask for a better experience. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
