Heart of Brooklyn in Fort Greene is great. Dr. Simon’s and staff are professional, knowledgeable, and clearly care deeply about the animals they treat. I’ve been taking my dog, Will, there for years and have had nothing but positive experiences. It’s a relief to have such a compassionate and reliable team in the neighborhood. Highly recommend them.

Had a great experience in this practice! Dr Simons was lovely, really reassuring, and explained everything clearly. The whole team were friendly and caring. Would definitely recommend!

I was here recently with my dog who was in for vaccines. He was seen by a lovely young vet called Molly. She was brilliant at making him comfortable and took special care to ensure his vet visit was smooth. Couldn’t reccomend her and this vet practice enough.

Extremely disappointing experience with Heart of Brooklyn Veterinary Hospital. We initially brought our dog Lola in for evaluation of a lump. The vet told us there would be separate charges for aspiration and cytology, and specifically told us to pay for the cytology upfront but that if, after reviewing the sample, they decided it did not need to be sent out, we would receive a refund. Later they said they wanted to repeat the aspiration and send it out, but when we declined further testing and requested the promised refund, we spent over a month getting the runaround. We repeatedly called and were constantly told either “there are no refunds” or “the manager will call you.” We were told at least 5 separate times that the manager would contact us, but nobody ever did. I even went into the office in person and the same front desk lady said the same thing: "There are no refunds. I'll have the manager call you". She still never called, and we ultimately had to dispute the charge through our credit card company because they refused to honor what we were originally told. The billing throughout our experience felt incredibly excessive and transactional. We were told we needed to come in for diabetic onboarding so they could show us how to give insulin shots, and were specifically told it would not require a doctor visit because a technician would handle it. The “training” lasted under 3 minutes. The tech literally just said “lift the skin and inject.” Then, as we were leaving, we were told we owed $90 for this appointment. I was shocked, and after we complained, they lowered it to $65, which only made the pricing feel arbitrary. The most concerning issue was how they handled Lola’s worsening diabetes. Dr. Simons approved us doing a blood glucose curve at home. We submitted results showing extremely high glucose readings and worsening symptoms on Sunday, but we didn't receive any response until Thursday despite multiple emails and calls. Every time we called, we were told Dr. Simons would respond “when available.” Eventually we received an email saying they preferred in-hospital curves despite her initial approval of at-home testing, and that interpretation of the curve and discussion of next steps would require an additional paid $84 phone consultation. This was despite the fact that we had already paid for multiple office visits and were dealing with what felt like an urgent situation involving uncontrolled diabetes.  The fact that their initial response was "Dr. Simons will respond whenever she's available", and then later sent another email saying that now they won't respond unless we do an $84 phone consultation is completely counter to caring and taking care of patients and instead just pure extraction. I understand veterinary care is expensive and doctors deserve to be compensated for their time. But this experience felt far beyond normal billing. The combination of poor communication, failure to return calls, refusing to honor what we were told regarding refunds, and constant nickel-and-diming during a serious medical issue left us feeling completely unsupported, and based on their lack of urgency responding to a veterinary emergency it's clear that they hardly care about the patients as much as they do charging us.

DO NOT TRUST THEIR TIMELINES FOR CRITICAL CARE. I called this clinic on Wednesday morning and explicitly explained that my cat had a time-sensitive biopsy scheduled for Friday morning. I told them I absolutely needed kidney markers, blood, and clotting test results by Thursday at 12 PM to decide whether to move forward with her procedure. The staff assured me I would have the results by Thursday morning. Based on that verbal promise, I made a 12 PM appointment for Wednesday and brought her in. The technician even reiterated that I might get the results by Wednesday evening, but Thursday morning at the latest. I did not sign any intake form, waiver, or consent form agreeing to anything different. When I called Thursday morning, suddenly they didn't have the results and told me it "might be Friday." This completely jeopardized my cat's scheduled biopsy. I went into the office in person, and their Medical Director Dr Singh was completely unhelpful and indifferent. Instead of offering an actual solution or taking accountability for the staff's false promises, the director just gave me empty "I'm sorry" and "I understand" statements, while trying to claim "we never say that, it usually takes 2-3 days." No one ever mentioned a 2-3 day timeline to me. If they had been honest from the start, I wouldn't have spent $700 on their tests and would have taken her to a clinic that could actually accommodate the timeline for her procedure. Now I am out of time to get it done at another place and out of money. If you have a sick pet and need reliable, time-sensitive diagnostics, do not bring them here! The communication is deceptive, and management takes zero accountability when they mess up. Honestly, I wouldn't trust my pet to this clinic.
