If you care about your pet’s wellbeing, do not under any circumstances come to this pet hospital. The word count limit isn’t high enough to outline all the ways in which they have completely failed, overlooked serious conditions, and are completely unprofessional. Needless to say, I am canceling 2 optimum wellness plans after having one of them for over a decade.

My cat’s health is extremely important to me, which is why my experience with Banfield has been so disappointing. The communication from this hospital has been disheartening from the start. There seems to be a strong focus on discussing the cost of services, but very little effort put into actually guiding pet owners through serious medical situations. My cat was diagnosed with lymphoma, yet no one has clearly explained whether it is large cell or small cell—information that is critical for understanding prognosis and treatment options. I’ve repeatedly had to follow up just to get basic updates, and even then, I’ve been given the runaround. There has been no initiative to proactively share results or walk me through next steps. As a pet owner facing something this serious, I’m left feeling confused, unsupported, and overwhelmed. I don’t know how much time I have left with my cat, and all I want is to make her as comfortable as possible. Instead of guidance and compassion, I’ve been met with inconsiderate and frustrating communication. Overall, this experience has been incredibly disappointing.

Banfield is a joke and so is their care plan. We signed up for the most expensive plan a year ago when we got our puppy. About two weeks ago they called us to let us know we were behind on Ginny’s shots and needed to schedule to get caught up and do her teeth cleaning. Fast forward to a week later my dog started having diarrhea. At first we weren’t really concerned because she was still playful so we didn’t think it was anything serious. We wanted to wait 24hrs to see if it would pass. After 24 hours she wasn’t getting better but at that point their office was closed and had to wait until the next day to call. The next day came and of course they didn’t have anything available until the next day. We asked if we should be concerned or try taking her somewhere else. They told us she would be okay to bring in the next day. Banfield said they would give us a call to update in about an hour after we dropped her off. After not getting a call after 4 hours we called to make sure everything was okay. They had her there for HOURS. In that entire time they did nothing. They literally just looked at her and assumed it was nothing. The Dr sent her home with anti diarrhea medicine and a probiotic. Also, the Dr told us we wouldn’t see any improvement until about the third day and to wait at least 5 days before bringing her back. The next day my dog looked worse. We called an emergency vet to ask if we should bring her in again and were told to try a bland diet. The following day we ran out and got everything we needed for her bland diet. At first she was eating and then that night she started refusing food and water. We rushed her to an emergency vet and they ran some testing. Turns out she had pneumonia. We were charged an astronomical amount to keep her over night that we couldn’t afford. They gave us some stuff to get her through the night and told us to take her to her banfield the next morning, assuring us she would be okay. After being at the emergency vet until 4 a.m. I woke up at 7 a.m. to try to get her in at banfield. I explained to them that she had pneumonia, she was struggling to breathe, wasn’t eating or drinking. I also mentioned that she looked like she was dying. They responded with “we don’t have anything available until after the holidays.” EXCUSE ME WHAT!? After calling FOUR locations someone finally told me that they don’t do oxygen in house and they would have to send us to an emergency vet. When we get to another emergency vet they took one look at her and immediately wanted blood work. Come to find out she had been trying to fight an infection for so long that she had almost no white blood cells left. They immediately started her on iv antibiotics and oxygen. Not even 3 hours later my dogs body gave up and she passed. I truly believe this could’ve been avoided if banfield did their job right and did blood work when they had her in their care. They told us to wait five days to bring her back and she died on the third day. The last thing I wanted to mention is, when we called to cancel our care plan because our dog is dead thanks to them, they said we owed over $700 for services. Please do yourself and your animals a favor and stay far away from all banfield locations.

They're nice but they over charge. The nurse tried to sell me on the vet package but unless you're at the vet often it doesnt really pay off. Plus they do single vacs for $25-$30 when other vet hospitals charge $12.
