Bring your pets here! From the doctors, to the nurses and staff, everyone is kind and patient. We have two kittens, one that was diagnosed with FPV by the medical team here, when our previous vet didn’t even think to test her for this virus, since she didn’t present with all the textbook symptoms. DD was hospitalized for a total of 8-9 days. Between their daily calls to walk us through her progress, next steps and our 100 questions on costs and options, RAH is truly one of the best vets. They even contacted the vaccine company that protects against FPV to help offset the costs which ended up not working in our favor, but through this process we found out our cats were given expired rabies vaccines at the shelter. DD is so much better and back home, thanks to Rockaway Animal Hospital. Special shout out to Dr. Harrs, Dr. Maniar and the overnight/weekend crew for taking such good care of our baby.

⚠️ URGENT: PLEASE READ IF YOU HAVE PETS ⚠️ I am writing this to warn everyone: DO NOT take your dogs or cats to Rockaway Animal Hospital. I’ve trusted these people since the beginning, but I realized last Tuesday that they care way more about money than the animals they are supposed to protect. They prey on people who love their pets but don't have a medical background, assuming they can just pressure you into paying for whatever they want. I went in for a simple follow-up after already spending $1,200 two weeks ago on bloodwork and X-rays that came back healthy. As soon as I got there, the staff started aggressively pressuring me to do the exact same $600 tests all over again. The lady was incredibly insistent, trying to push me to say "yes" and let them take my dog back for things he absolutely did not need. It felt like a total shakedown. When I stood my ground and refused to be intimidated, they told me the doctor said he was fine and that I wouldn't even be charged for the visit since I only spoke to a tech for 10 minutes. Fast forward a week later, and I just received an invoice for nearly $600 for the very X-rays and bloodwork that I declined and they NEVER performed. It is a damn shame that a place meant to care for helpless animals is out here trying to commit fraud and exploit pet owners. Please, look at their recent reviews—I’m not the only one this is happening to. Take your business elsewhere to someone who actually cares about your pet’s health, not just your wallet. 🚩🚩🚩

After one of the scariest experiences with my dog, I cannot say enough amazing things about Rockaway Animal Hospital. My baby was initially admitted to another hospital where surgery was being pushed within just 12 hours of the first consultation. Wanting a second opinion, I transferred him to Rockaway Animal Hospital — and it was the best decision I could have made. Dr. Maniar took the time to truly evaluate and treat my dog the right way instead of rushing into an invasive procedure. Thanks to his thoughtful and thorough care, surgery was avoided completely. Throughout the entire process, Dr. Maniar personally stayed in contact with me every single day through phone calls and texts, always making sure I knew exactly what was happening and how my dog was doing. That level of communication and compassion meant more than words can express. The staff was absolutely lovely from start to finish. They treated both my dog and our family with so much kindness, warmth, and patience during an incredibly stressful time. We were even allowed to visit after regular vet hours, which brought so much comfort while he was hospitalized. My dog stayed there for nine days, and unbelievably, the total cost was about the same as ONE day at the other hospital. In a world where veterinary care can sometimes feel rushed and financially overwhelming, finding a place that genuinely prioritizes the health and wellbeing of animals over exorbitant fees is truly a blessing. I am beyond grateful to Dr. Maniar and the entire team at Rockaway Animal Hospital for the love, dedication, and exceptional care they gave my dog. I cannot recommend them highly enough.

Happy to see the growth with the new building and parking lot. The old building seemed too small for this busy practice and parking was always a challenge. Wait times for scheduled appointments were excessive in the old building. For recent visits we hardly waited at all in the spacious, clean, modern, fresh-smelling waiting room after checking in or in the exam room. Reception seems to be hit or miss as my wife had a less than pleasant experience during check-in. We got a quote for a dental with low and high numbers as a range and our final was under the low number which was a welcome surprise. It was a nice incentive to book a dental at $100 off this spring, but the rest of the charges added up quickly. Prices have continued to rise like everything else but it's still a shock when we get the bill. Not sure this is unique to this practice. Between the annual, blood work and the dental (with extractions), we're clocking in at over $1300. Always hard to write reviews and rate with stars, there are so many components and each pet is a unique case. We have had 3 cats over the years (2005-present) and always went to Rockaway Animal Hospital, mostly because of proximity. The prior owner seemed a bit pushy, but Drs. Maniar and Gannon were always wonderful. With the expansion, we haven't seen them for routine care in several years and assume they are busy running the expanded practice. It is a business, after all. We have seen several other vets there. Some seemed young and inexperienced though well educated and well-intentioned. Thankfully for our pet (and budget) we have only had to make appointments for an annual exam and dental cleanings. Your mileage may vary. Be an educated consumer/pet owner.

I will first say I love the doctors here. Dr Manier, Dr Kahn, Dr Schiess and Dr Dubos are all fantastic. However, everything else has changed since they've moved to be honest. I went in for tech appointment for a booster shot for my dog. Typically these are quick and you're in the room barely a minute. I waited in the waiting room to close to 40 minutes just to walk into a patient room and walk back out within 30 seconds because that's how quick it was. Crazy I had to wait 40 minutes for a 30 second appointment. Medication refills have also become a problem. I typically order 3 days before I need an actual refill. Their new "app" will notify you that the medication is ready but there's a good chance that when you arrive it still won't be. I showed the reception desk the notification I got from the app that it was "ready for pick up" and was met with "you need to wait for us to text you. Why would you come if we didn't text you." Maybe the app shouldn't be sending out false updates?. Also, it takes a minimum of 3 days to get a refill for medication that comes pre counted in a BOX with each pill already wrapped in the original packaging. By the time I can pick it up my dog is typically out of medication already. Last, and most disappointing - the new front desk girls are awful. I came in one night and while waiting in the waiting room for medication, two teen girls walked in crying because something was wrong with their dog and were following instructions from their mother (who was in the phone) to bring him to the vet. They were told "well you should really go somewhere else, I don't think the doctor can see him and if she can you have to leave him here. I can ask if you really want to but it's going to take awhile." What? That is your response? Yeah that's pretty disgusting for a place that should have compassion towards animals. I understand your busy and that ER may not be available but the tone with the attitude and way it was handled was disgusting. Not sure if it's new management, new staff or just too many patients being booked at once but this place has really changed and that's disappointing.
