  My girlfriend and i an appointment for our rat on monday to get a lump we found examined and tested to make sure it wasn't cancerous. during the visit we were told she was in perfect health and nothing sounded wrong and that the dr didn't have any other concerns. id like to note that before the visit she never acted or showed any signs of being sick we brought her in for our own peace of mind and because we were willing to do what we needed to help our pet. they did a cytology to see what was wrong but prior to it they said it was noninvasive, a quick test and nothing but a little poke. they didn't explain any further than that. they failed to tell us what we should be cautious of like the stress it could cause on her (yes i know all animals get stressed at the vet but they didn't tell us the extent of how it can affect rats and what to look out for) not only did they not explain that they failed to mention the possibility of them hitting something in her chest. her whole demeanor was different when she was returned from the back but we assumed she was just stressed. immediately after returning home she went right to her hut and slept for most of the day when it came to her time to be fed she came out no issues and was her normal self rest of the night. tuesday,maybe 24hours later she was less energetic and we noticed her breathing was faster. at 3pm i called with my concerns and they weren't very concerned and insisted it was stress of the appointment and that we could bring her back but should just try getting her to eat baby food because she was refusing everything and give it another day "because she's probably just stressed and the babyfood will help her perk up". it took everything in us to keep hope that she was okay but she very quickly started declining. her breathing got fater, she became more lethargic as time went on and only moved when she peed herself, at one point she couldn't even lift her own head and was even spitting out the water we tried giving her. by 8:30pm tuesday she was dead. yesterday we went in to try and speak to someone about this because she was in the words of the dr " in perfect health". they took over 5 minutes to get someone out to speak to us and were all looking at us through the glass and speaking before coming out to us. when we voiced our issues and opinions they immediately double backed on everything and were giving us attitudes when we simply wanted answers. when i expressed i was concerned with the fact that it was a sensitive area and that they could have hit something that harmed her they immediately got more of an attitude and highly defensive. we demanded that we spoke to someone higher up and they said we will get a call by both the dr and the general manager by the end of thr day. i havent heard a single thing from anyone and its been well over 24hours.

  Thorough and friendly. We’ve been going to Banfield since I adopted my dog 6 years ago. The wellness plan with a dental cleaning included is a godsend. Ellen, the CVT in Manahawkin is wonderful.

  Have a wellness plan and extremely shocked that it cost an additional $430.00. My dog was just getting a 6 month check up. My dog did NOT even require medication. I do however like Dr. Candela.
