This was one of the most upsetting experiences I have ever had with a pet store.
We purchased a bearded dragon from Petco who was severely underweight, dehydrated, and far too young to be sold in the condition he was in. This was not a minor concern or a case of an animal simply needing a little extra care. He was clearly struggling.
We knew he was unhealthy when we chose him. We also knew that if we took him home, he would at least have a fighting chance. We were willing to take on the responsibility because leaving him there knowing what condition he was in was not something we could bring ourselves to do.
What makes this even more unacceptable is that when my kids pointed out that something was wrong with him, an employee was rude to them. My children were expressing genuine concern for a living animal. They were not being disrespectful, difficult, or dramatic. They saw an animal that was obviously not doing well, and instead of their concerns being taken seriously, they were treated rudely for saying something.
He is now at the veterinarian because his condition is serious enough that we felt professional medical care was necessary. We are doing everything we can to get him healthy and give him the chance he should have had from the beginning.
Petco needs to remember that these are living animals, not inventory that can simply be put on a shelf and sold regardless of their condition. If an animal is severely underweight, dehydrated, and too young to be sold, the answer should be veterinary care and proper rehabilitation, not putting a price tag on it and sending it home with a customer.
The fact that we felt that taking this animal home ourselves was his best chance says everything that needs to be said.
Petco should be ashamed that an animal could reach this condition while under their care and still be considered sellable. And employees absolutely should not be making customers, especially children, feel like they did something wrong for pointing out that an animal needs help.
I sincerely hope management takes this seriously, because this is not just about a bad customer service experience. This is about the welfare of a living creature that had no ability to speak up for himself.
The photos attached are the second we got him home and into his new enclosure notice his spine his ribs his hip bones all visible. His skin is noticeably wrinkled his eyes are sunken in and he his struggling to hold his head up..

I brought my long haired Chihuahua into this Petco three times to get a grooming and bath and this will be the last time! I’m pretty sure they just hire people off the street and say here ya go good luck! The first time I took her in to get a cut and bath they barely took anything off and she got a quarter size sore on her belly so took her to the vet to fix that problem. Went ahead and called and talked to the manager and she said to come back in and they would fix the cut. I asked her to specifically fix the cut. When we went back it was better. So just recently I called to make another appointment and specifically asked when the next available appointment is for a groom and bath BUT I want the manager to do the grooming!!! And the lady on the phone said Saturday at 11:30 is the managers next availability and I said perfect! So appointment was made! Went ahead and dropped her off at 11:30 and was told it will be 3/4 hours. Which I thought thats a long time. But it is what it is! We got a text that she was ready to be picked up. They brought her out and asked to look her over and felt rushed doing so but we didn’t do a thorough job looking her over, so that is on us! But let’s just say we couldn’t stop talking about her awful cut!! And I mean awful!! And to top it off I left a tip and the manager said to her employee, go give the tip to another employee! (Don’t remember her name) So that told me the manager DID NOT do the grooming and bath! When I specifically said I want the manager to do it! So if the manager or upper management reads this review please reach out to me so we can talk!

Highly recommend Petco for dog training. Steve trained our puppy in the beginning and advanced training, and also facilitated puppy playtime. I cannot say enough good things about him or recommend his training classes enough!
