  They hold your dogs hostage until you pay the unreasonable fee. Put dirty mats on the table for the dogs. I brought a 4 week old puppy there and all she had was a stuffy nose from nursing. She was not vaccinated and they put her on dirty mats and with other dogs. I paid over a $1300 for them to do absolutely nothing! Took her to my regular vet and they said all she had was a stuffy nose from nursing. I would NEVER recommend them to anyone!

  We took our dog here for an ultrasound after he had been suffering from severe gastritis for nearly a week. Unfortunately, our experience was extremely disappointing. We were initially told the wait would be approximately 2–4 hours, but it ended up being about 10 hours. We completely understand that this is an emergency veterinary hospital and that emergencies can change wait times. What made the experience especially difficult was that our dog was kept away from us during that entire time, while we waited with very little communication or updates. Our biggest concern, however, was the lack of attention to our dog’s medical history and the information provided by our primary veterinarian. Our dog has a documented protein allergy that was actually diagnosed at this same facility four years ago. Despite that history, he was given food containing a protein source he should not have received. When a pet has a known food allergy and is already experiencing serious gastrointestinal problems, reviewing the medical record and following the referring veterinarian’s information should be a basic part of his care. We were also very disappointed with the written notes from the visit. In our opinion, portions did not accurately reflect what occurred or the information we provided, and the wording seemed to support a narrative that did not match our experience. We will not be returning. I strongly encourage anyone seeking emergency veterinary care to research the facility carefully, read reviews, ask questions, and advocate for your pet—especially if your pet has allergies, chronic conditions, or a complicated medical history

  my review is similar to others. called before even going in, explaining my cat was mouth breathing/ drooling/ totally out of it. the person on the phone said bring her in immediately and they’d send people to get her as soon as i get there as this was a serious emergency. i get there and they have only 1 person working the desk, taking their time. i finally get to the front of the line and she says oh your cats fine but if you still want to wait it’s gonna be a 6 hour wait or you can try somewhere else. like they really did not even want to take us in as a patient and it was clear. we went to urgent vet right down the street and they were much more accommodating, friendly, and it was a stress free transaction (and definitely way cheaper). never coming to this “emergency vet” again. there’s many other options around, i wouldn’t consider this place to be on the top of your list though.

  My Belgian Malinois was throwing up blood and had significant blood in her stool. The local veterinary clinic was able to get her in and see her. I was given medicine and referred to Carolina veterinary Specialist if problems continued. I called Carolina Veterinary Clinic in Winston-Salem this morning and spoke with Felicity. She told me there was a two hour wait and to have my Vet clinic have her medical records sent over. As I was about to pull in there my local vet clinic called and said Carolina veterinary specialist in Winston-Salem would not be able to see my dog today. I don’t understand how Carolina Veterinary Specialists say they’re open 24/7 and are getting referrals from local vet clinics because of they’re capabilities but can still turn away emergency patients. With a 3.9 Google review rating it is clear this place has a lot of problems. Be aware bringing your precious pet to this place as you may be turned away. Shameful!

  I honestly don't know if I will ever be able to find the right words to express how grateful I am to everyone at Carolina Pet Specialists. I came to you with my sweet Zeus during what was, without a doubt, one of the most heartbreaking and devastating moments of my life. He wasn't just my dog. He was my baby, my companion, and a piece of my heart. Having to say goodbye to him was something I never thought I would have to experience, and I was completely overwhelmed with grief. But through one of the darkest moments of my life, your staff showed me so much compassion, kindness, and understanding. You treated Zeus with gentleness and dignity, and you treated me with compassion when I was hurting more than I can put into words. You went above and beyond for us in a way that I will never forget. You didn't make me feel judged, embarrassed, or alone. Instead, you showed me that there are still people who genuinely care about animals and the people who love them. Your kindness gave me something I desperately needed that day: the ability to know that Zeus was being cared for and that his final moments would be peaceful. I left that day heartbroken, but I also left knowing that my baby had been surrounded by people who understood how precious his life was to me. That means more to me than I could ever explain. I wish I could personally thank every person who helped Zeus and me that day. Please know that your kindness will stay with me for the rest of my life. In a moment when my heart was completely shattered, you gave my sweet boy dignity, peace, and compassion. Thank you for taking care of my baby when I couldn't bear to let him go. Thank you for being gentle with him. And thank you for being gentle with me. I will never forget what you did for Zeus. ❤️
