In all my years of riding and watching others ride, Stella and Tharyn really are the best trainers in the industry. Constant communication with their riders while standing in the arena being active with their students. And they are KIND. And the property is so well kept. Beautifully painted jumps. Fresh shavings in every stall. Happy well fed horses all around. Sincerely the best barn and trainers I've ever been to in my 20 years around equestrian activities.

Frequently Asked Questions About Star Ridge Stables
Where is Star Ridge Stables located?
We're located off Highway 70 at 726 WC Braswell Rd, Selma NC. When you arrive at the property, you'll find us in the first barn on the left. Please park in the grassy area where other vehicles are parked. The driveway continues to the back of the property, but that leads to the owner's private residence, so please don't follow it all the way.
Do I have to own my own horse?
No, horse ownership isn't required for lessons or showing. We maintain our own collection of trained school horses and ponies available for student use.
What is the student to instructor ratio?
Our class sizes vary from one-on-one instruction to a maximum of five students per instructor. These smaller class sizes ensure each student receives the personalized attention necessary for skill development.
Do I need my own equipment? What do I or my child need to wear?
Students should wear long pants such as stretch pants, leggings, or jeans. Footwear should have a small heel, similar to a boot. Tennis shoes and flat-soled shoes aren't safe for riding. We'll provide a riding helmet for your use. All riders must wear an approved riding helmet while mounted. Bicycle helmets are acceptable. After three months, students are required to purchase their own ASTM-SEI approved riding helmet.
When are lessons available? What will they cost?
We offer lessons throughout the year, Monday through Saturday. Lesson pricing begins at $65.
What if it rains on my lesson day?
Lessons continue regardless of weather conditions. Our comprehensive horsemanship program includes classroom instruction on rainy days, covering essential topics like horse tacking, bathing, basic first aid, clipping, and leg wrapping.
Do I have to compete at horse shows if I take lessons?
Competition isn't mandatory for lesson students. We provide various other activities including fun days and in-house clinics.
What if I do want to compete at a show and I do not own a horse?
Our lesson horses and ponies are available for any student to use at shows. The same horses you learn on during lessons can accompany you into the show ring for competition.
