Our experience with PetSound Animal Hospital was one of the most heartbreaking and distressing experiences we have ever gone through as pet owners.
We brought our 1 year old puppy back for a post-operative neutering appointment (performed by Dr. Stewart) due to serious concerns including lethargy, vomiting, diarrhea, refusal to eat/drink, and documented moderate to severe dehydration following surgery and prescribed NSAID medication. Despite these symptoms, no bloodwork or advanced diagnostics were performed, and our 1 year old puppy was ultimately sent home after minimal treatment.
Hours later, his condition continued worsening and we rushed him to VEG Emergency Hospital in Cary, where his care was immediately escalated. VEG performed extensive diagnostics, hospitalized him with documented owner consent, and ultimately diagnosed pancreatitis following ultrasound evaluation (a severe and potentially life-threatening condition well recognized in veterinary medicine as being associated with anesthesia, NSAID exposure, and/or surgical trauma).
What has been equally disturbing is what we discovered afterward during the insurance and Board complaint process: multiple different versions of the same PetSound medical record exist. The medical records originally provided directly to us as clients differed from the version later produced during the Board review process, including:
• differing documented respiration values
• additional handwritten clinical entries
• and undocumented diagnostic values not present in the original client copy.
Even more concerning, the version containing the handwritten additions reflected an earlier print timestamp than the “official” copy later provided to us without those entries.
Despite raising these concerns repeatedly, they were continuously minimized as insignificant or “interpretation,” despite the discrepancies being objectively reflected in the records themselves.
We also made attempts to speak directly with Dr. Stewart regarding our puppy’s condition and what occurred following what was presented to us as a routine neuter procedure. We have documentation of those efforts, but were ultimately told that only the insurance company would communicate with us moving forward. At no point did anyone from PetSound reach out to ask how our puppy was doing after we informed them of his emergency hospitalization and diagnosis. The complete lack of empathy, accountability, and concern shown throughout this process has been incredibly upsetting.
We understand that complications can happen in veterinary medicine. What has been most disturbing is the inconsistent documentation, the dismissive handling of legitimate concerns, and the complete absence of compassion shown afterward.
We are sharing our experience so other pet owners can make informed decisions, ask questions, carefully review medical records, and seek immediate second opinions when serious post-operative symptoms arise.

shoutout to everyone at Petsound 🙏🏽 finding the perfect vet for my dog has been troubling, and after my first visit at petsound today, I can thankfully say I found the one!! My previous (2-3?) vets not only charged an arm and a leg for basic examinations, but they also weren’t the best when it came to caring for my dog. I have a boxer mix who is pretty defensive, and my old vet would literally look at my dog like he was a dinosaur. she wouldn’t get close to him and wouldn’t even talk to him, and I felt like my dog could some how sense the fear. I understand that caution should be taken when approaching any dog, but the way they handled my dog was wild😂 On top of that, they wanted to charge me over $400 just to treat his ear infection. They said he would require sedation because he showed aggressiveness (mmm wonder why)
Everyone at petsound was amazing and i can’t recommend this place enough. All it took for them to see my dog was a quick phone call with the suuuuuper kind woman who works at the front. They don’t overcharge you, they show care for your animals, and they do everything necessary to resolve any problems. once again, shoutout to the kind ppl at petsound🙌🏽

I usually don’t write negative reviews but in this case, when it comes to our pets, I do feel the need.
I came here several weeks ago because my dog was experiencing focal seizures and wanted to get him on anti-seizure medication.
When I explained this to the vet, he didn’t seem concerned, nor did he know what I was talking about when I was explaining the symptoms of focal seizures in my dog.
So unfortunately it ended up as the doctor dismissing my concerns. I did my best to simply trust what he was saying, so I moved on and paid the vet bill.
Only a few weeks later, and my dog has experienced two full blown seizures and we are now in an urgent care, getting a prescription for anti-seizure meds.
The technicians here agreed and said that the vet from PetSound should have known what a focal seizures was. And if they would have listened to me, these larger seizures could have been avoided.
I do not remember the doctors name that saw my dog. But I would not recommend him if I did. I can’t speak on the quality of the other vets at this facility.
