The staff here are so amazing! We drove into town trying to get away from a hurricane over the weekend. The hotel we were staying at initially told us we could bring our kitty with, but when we got there they were gonna charge us $250 for him to stay! Thank God we found Picayune Veterinary Clinic, they had boarding and they took my kitty in for the night. They were super kind and even waived our overnight fee 🙏🏼 Thank you so much for helping us out in our moment of need!!! Very good people!!!

I never imagined I would be writing a review like this, but other pet owners need to know about our experience with Dr. Heath at Picayune Veterinary Clinic. On 9/26/26, I brought our 6 yr-old Chihuahua, Izzy, in. She was lethargic and breathing very rapid and shallow and visibly struggling to breathe. Chest X-Rays were taken (even though you could hear the fluid without it) and we were told she was in Congestive Heart Failure. Despite her respiratory distress, Izzy was not placed on oxygen, hospitalized, or given an injectable diuretic, such as Lasix. We were sent home with oral medications after being in office from 8:57AM-10:25AM. Most importantly, I did not leave understanding that Izzy could be actively dying or that she needed immediate transfer to a hospital. Had I been told how critical she was, I would have taken her anywhere necessary and paid whatever it would have cost. I kept telling the vet that she was struggling, to which he agreed and even commented on how she was stretching her neck out in attempts to breathe. Why did this vet not provide adequate treatment and get her stabilized?? Why did he not give her oxygen? Lasix IM? He did no treatments in office and led me to believe the she would get through this once I gave her the medications. The visit was $470 and I left thinking I had done the best thing for my baby and I trusted that Dr. Heath was the professional and that my baby would be ok once I gave the medications to her. I got home- gave her the medications. She rapidly deteriorated. I watched her struggle to breathe, fall while trying to stand, collapse over and over, and gasp for her final breaths in my arms while I sat there helpless because we were too far away from any facility and time had run out for her. Izzy died at 11:54 while she stared at me in panic. My husband called the clinic after Izzy passed and wanted to know why he didn't treat her and why he sent us home like that. What is even more alarming is what happened next. I called the clinic the next day and I asked for all of her medical records to be sent to me. The records were falsified and stated that Dr. Heath spoke with me and my husband about Izzy needing 24 hour care at MedVet or euthanization and that we both declined multiple times. I was present at her appointment and would have NEVER declined emergency care. MedVet and Euthanization were NEVER mentioned during our visit there! We had also raised concerns over the years about Izzy's unusually loud breathing, lack of energy, and weight gain despite dieting. We were reassured and told that she had allergies and injections were recommended. We were never made aware these symptoms might warrant cardiac investigation. I understand no one can say with certainty that emergency treatment would have saved her, but she was already inside a veterinary clinic, visibly struggling to breathe and diagnosed with heart failure and he did NOTHING! I will forever wonder whether oxygen, injectable diuretics, stabilization, or immediate actions would have saved her. Izzy was not just a "dog". She was our family member for 6 years. Watching her struggle for air and die in my arms was devastating. I have a video taken inside the exam room showing her respiratory distress, but Google is not allowing me to post a "video". Izzy was loved so deeply and will be missed every single day! This veterinarian should not be allowed to practice. That was the most inhumane thing I have ever witnessed in my life. No family should ever have to experience what we did with our baby. I will forever be left with the memory of Izzy fighting for every breath, trying to get up, collapsing, and looking at me in pure panic while I held her in my arms helplessly. Dr. Heath failed Izzy when she needed veterinary care the most. I think every pet owner should be aware of this. I personally do not believe he should be entrusted with the care of another animal. I have filed a formal complaint with the MS Board of Veterinary Medicine. I have recordings and videos from inside the exam room that prove the discrepancies.

Annual visits for my yorkie are always great. This is our 2nd visit and I was surprised the price didn't increase from last year with the prices for everything else going up. Very satisfied!

DO NOT BRING YOUR CATS HERE. ‼️‼️ the only reason i’m giving a two star rating is because they are harder to remove. this happened almost a year ago now, I got two vouchers to get kittens fixed through the SPCA. everything was fine, we brought them in that morning and they call around 2-3pm and tell us the kittens are ready to be brought home. when i got there they told me i owed them $58 and i was confused. they told me they were covered in fleas and they had worms coming out of their butts so they had to give them dewormer and flea medication. those kittens were only six months old and had never been outside in their life. they might have had a couple fleas like cats tend to have, but certainly weren’t covered. we kept them in a separate area always and used the voucher system because we planned on finding homes for them, not to keep them. i didn’t want to argue because they still had they cats in their possession and we didn’t want them to keep them. i had to leave to get my wallet and come back to pay. they put us in a room and made us wait about 30-40 minutes just for them to tell us one of our cats passed after surgery. the doctor told us that he passed during recovery, like he went to sleep and never woke back up. and then told me that cats can react badly to anesthesia. we took this information at the time and they did send a card a week later. however, i’ve heard of so many people that have had cases similar to mine. and most of them ended up with their pet passing at this clinic. please DO NOT BRING YOUR ANIMALS HERE.
