  I wish I had gotten a second opinion sooner. My dog, Peppy, had a persistent cough that continued for weeks and eventually became much worse. I took him to Angel Animal Hospital because I trusted them to thoroughly evaluate what was going on. My experience was extremely disappointing. Despite Peppy’s ongoing cough, I did not feel that his symptoms were investigated seriously enough. I specifically questioned whether more diagnostic testing, including an X-ray, should be done. Instead, I was told he would be fine and was advised to give him Robitussin, including instructions on how much to give him. After talking with friends who were concerned about that recommendation and Peppy’s continued symptoms, I decided to take him somewhere else for a second opinion. At the second veterinary practice, they immediately recommended an X-ray. That X-ray revealed a tumor and cancer involving his lungs. Peppy died approximately a month later. What hurts me most is knowing how miserable he had been while I believed I was following appropriate veterinary advice. I was trying everything I could to make him comfortable, while the underlying problem had not been diagnosed. I understand that cancer is not always curable and that no veterinarian can guarantee an outcome. My complaint is about the level of evaluation Peppy received when he had a persistent and worsening cough and my concerns about further testing were not acted upon. Losing Peppy was heartbreaking. Finding out afterward that something so serious was happening inside his body made the experience even more painful. Based on my personal experience, I cannot recommend Angel Animal Hospital. If your pet has persistent or worsening symptoms and you do not feel that your concerns are being fully investigated, please seek a second opinion.

  I am writing this while grieving the sudden loss of my beloved Maia, who was almost 14 years old and had been a patient at Angel Animal Hospital for approximately five years. I also worked as a veterinary technician for 10 years and I want to acknowledge I know firsthand how busy, stressful, and emotionally demanding veterinary medicine can be. I understand that mistakes happen and that veterinary teams are stretched thin. I do not write this review lightly. My concerns began during one of Maia’s final visits. She was being seen specifically for a sick-pet appointment, and given her advanced age and the issues she was experiencing, I requested in-house diagnostic testing because I did not want to wait for bloodwork to return from an outside laboratory. I also requested a urinalysis and asked about obtaining a sterile sample by cystocentesis, but was told, “We don’t do that here.” I left frustrated by what felt like a lack of preparedness for a nearly 14-year-old sick patient. On August 1, Maia experienced a sudden medical emergency. I contacted Angel Animal Hospital but was unable to have her seen there, so I rushed her to an emergency hospital in Northville. She deteriorated extraordinarily quickly, and I had to say goodbye to her that day. What has ultimately prompted this review is how I have been treated after her death. Angel Animal Hospital was notified of Maia’s passing by the emergency hospital. I also personally informed another doctor and a veterinary assistant when I subsequently brought my other dog, Roo, into the clinic. Today is August 12—11 days since Maia died—and I have received no acknowledgment of her passing from the primary veterinary practice that cared for her for half a decade. To make matters worse, days after her death, a Chewy prescription request for Roo was declined because the clinic mistakenly read it as being for Maia. I explained that this was particularly upsetting because Maia had just died. I also expressed hurt that I had not yet received any acknowledgment of her death from the practice that had cared for her for years. I mentioned receiving a handwritten card from the emergency hospital and flowers from Chewy—not because I expected gifts, but because those gestures made the silence from her longtime veterinary practice especially noticeable. Their response included: “Sorry that the process isn’t as speedy as you prefer, but please do not compare us to mass corporations that are specifically operated to rush everything.” That response is ultimately why I am writing this review. I wasn’t asking for flowers, gifts, or “speed.” I was grieving the loss of a dog I had loved for nearly 14 years and asking for basic compassion from the veterinary practice I had trusted with her care. I cannot understand responding defensively to a grieving client who is explaining that your mistake caused additional pain. Maia deserved kindness. After five years of trusting this practice with my animals, I expected kindness in the days after losing her, too.

  Very caring and understanding. Sweet staff and an even sweeter kitty. Very nice place with reasonable prices and first visit fees!

  This incompetent clinic mishandled the cat with an actively leaking mass such that he fell off the table, immediately worsening the leak and sending him into respiratory distress. Then they just left the room despite him suddenly going into panting with open mouth. I had to go out and point out that he had suddenly entered respiratory after their mistake. They diagnosed him as immediately terminal after one X-ray. They said he wouldn't survive surgery at a nearby REAL hospital since he was 15. Maybe he wouldn't survive after they dropped him off the table, but saying he's 15 is just lying. They wouldn't let us be with him while making the decision of whether or not to euthenize, check in on how he was doing after they dropped him, etc. there was no sense of urgency at all as we tried to decide whether to take him to a less incompetent hospital (by the way, this place is NOT a hospital. No actual capabilities). Then the euthenasia. They gave him the sedation shot without putting a catheter in him first. When they came back to check on the sedation, they just kind of picked him up and put him in a glass box, then started pumping gas into it. No explanation of what they were doing or why they weren't doing a standard euthenasia. It was horrific, like we put the cat into a gas chamber. No ability to pet him during. The doctor literally said "leave him in there for 2-5 minutes then come get me. The owner had to leave the room. When I asked why they did that to the nurse, she said his veins were too weak to get a catheter in after the sedation shot. Then why didn't you put the catheter in first?? Why not explain what you're about to do to the owner before just gassing him?? I stayed with him, but it was many minutes, not the typical instant passing away. No explanation. All the while the doctor, Dr. Orouji, kept zipping out to deal with other patients and being kind of flippitant.They would've left the door open with rowdy dogs barking the entire time if I didn't ask to shut it. Kept having people with NO soft skills pushing what cremation option and vase and how much things would cost. I had tried to give them my credit card at the start to just approve charges and not do the stupid payments back and forth while going through this misery. Also, the private cremation cost ~$300 more than b1ue p3arl. Just go to the real hospital 12 minutes away.

  WILL NEVER TAKE ANOTHER FUR BABY HERE AGAIN. I had 2 puppies that caught parvo and were seen by this place one day they charged us for medication THEN TOLD US NOT TO USE IT, and told to return the next day at 2:30 THEN they push it back to 2:45, we arrive early and inform them we are outside for their treatment they proceed to tell us NOW they cant work on them AS A " ANIMAL HOSPITAL" NOT A VET. THEY SEEN MY PUPPY WAS STRUGGLING AFTER THEM HAVING US WAIT OUTSIDE FOR ANOTHER 30 mins after arriving early. They send us to another "hospital" we speak with that hospital they say we can come and they have an appointment at 3:40 to see them. We arrive at 3:31 EXACTLY and go inside to tell them we are here and they turn us away saying another dog came with an emergency LIKE MY OUUPY WASNT AN EMERGENCY. THEY SEEN HIM STRUGGLING AND TURNED US AWAY ANY. When we finally found A REAL ANIMAL HOSPITAL as SOON as we parked he started screaming, I then rushed him inside where the doctor took him and said he sadly passed away. RIP Aldarok he was 4 months. THIS PLACE COULD HAVE TOLD US THEY COULDNT HELP INSTEAD OF HAVING US PAY FOR THINGS THEN TELL US NOT TO USE THEM. This place is NOT an animal hospital it is a place for them to play doctor. NO ONE IN THERE CARED NOT EVEN A LITTLE BIT. I hope you ppl have proper licensing I will take this as far as it needs to go. You ppl had us riding around for an hour and a half, from push back timing, to your recommendation treating my puppy the same. You ppl are SICK.
