Strange place, service was good time. It is like a hit or miss. Depending on who is working. I must assume that customer service is not trained from the top down. The Manager's focus is not on customers. Perhaps!

We have been buying fish and aquarium supplies from PetSmart for years and decided to give Petco in Augusta a try. That turned out to be a mistake, and after this experience we will not be returning. The problems started in the fish department. We waited approximately 30 minutes for assistance while employees walked by and offered no help. When someone finally came over, instead of helping us select fish, we were immediately subjected to a lengthy interrogation about our tank setup and then informed about several fish they would not sell us. I understand that stores have policies regarding fish compatibility and tank requirements, and that's perfectly fine. However, making customers stand around for half an hour only to lecture them about what they can't buy is not good customer service. After finally purchasing two fish, we checked out and went home. We immediately floated the bag in our aquarium to acclimate the fish to the water temperature. A couple of hours later, we released them into the tank. The next morning, one of the new fish was dead while the other was completely fine. When we returned to the store, we expected a simple replacement or refund for a fish that cost about four dollars. Instead, we were met with yet another round of questioning and accusations. The employee immediately suggested that we were responsible for the fish's death because we floated the bag for two hours. Apparently that explanation didn't account for the fact that the other fish from the same purchase survived and is doing perfectly well. As the conversation continued, the employee became increasingly condescending. My wife eventually explained that we simply wanted either a replacement fish or a refund. Shockingly, there seemed to be significant hesitation over resolving an issue involving a four-dollar fish. At that point, my wife said we would just take our business back to PetSmart. That is when we were treated to an overly complicated explanation involving water testing, a detailed investigation into everything we did at home, and a process that felt completely disproportionate to the situation. The entire interaction came across as pretentious, dismissive, and unnecessarily confrontational. The biggest issue was not the dead fish. Fish die. That happens. The issue was the attitude. We felt talked down to, belittled, and treated as though we were inconveniencing employees by asking for basic customer service. A four-dollar fish was not worth the amount of lecturing, gatekeeping, and condescension we experienced. The Augusta Petco location seriously needs to evaluate how employees interact with customers. There is a major difference between educating customers and treating them like they are clueless. We walked in intending to become repeat customers and walked out deciding never to return. We will be taking our business back to PetSmart.

The quality has dropped and your prices have been raised significantly. This cannot be blamed on inflation it pretty obvious its corporate greed. The app is useless. Downhill fast only shop in emergency pet situations now.

My daughter purchased a 30 gallon fish tank from the Augusta location and when she asked for help carrying it to her car, the cashier replied that they had no one to help her and it should fit in a cart. My daughter said I don’t think a 39 gallon tank will fit in you small two level shopping cart. The cashier looked at the cart and then looked at my daughter and said I think it will fit, you will be fine. My daughter has a back injury and shouldn’t be lifting heavy items. So she struggled to fit the corner of the tank box into a cart and got it to her suv. She hurt her back injury the process all while being watched by employees. I have had the worst experiences at this location recently and will not be shopping her again unfortunately.
