Chickadee Seed & Feed provides feed and grain, wild bird products, dog and cat products, barn supplies, and a variety of locally made or fair trade gifts in Walpole, MA.
If Missy bottled her energy, it would outsell Prozac—she’s basically the human version of it. The second you walk into Chickadee Seed & Feed, you feel like you’ve been personally welcomed into a warm, slightly chaotic (in the best way) animal-loving hug.
Missy somehow knows everything—and I mean everything—about pet care. Chickens? Ducks? Dogs, cats, rabbits, goats, horses? She’s your girl. I’m convinced if you brought in a llama or a raccoon she’d still have solid advice and probably a product recommendation ready to go.
And let’s talk about the real VIPs: Mooshi and Mango, the shop cats who run the place (Missy just works there, let’s be honest). Bonus points for the days when one or two of her dogs make an appearance—it’s basically a free serotonin boost while you shop.
Beyond me loving Chickadee, my kids and husband are just as obsessed. Honestly, I have to budget extra time every time I stop in because I end up chatting with Missy—and somehow even her customers. It’s that kind of place.
Prices? Always reasonable. Like… “wait, this is cheaper than Amazon?” reasonable. And at this point, choosing to shop local here instead of big retailers just feels like common sense. Support your community and save money? Done.
On a personal level, Missy has also been such an incredible networking partner for my business, which just adds another layer of appreciation on top of everything else.
Between the adorable knick-knacks, the unbeatable vibe, and the genuinely good people, we’re seriously so lucky to have a store like Chickadee so close by.
And if you’re not shopping there… I mean… respectfully… what are you doing? 🙂

I first met Missy while our dog was getting groomed. From the very beginning, she took the time to really know us (and lovingly nicknamed my dog “the hugger”), and we’ve been coming back ever since.
Over the years and through different stages of my life (and hers), this place has stayed a constant. Even after the groomer closed, we kept coming back for dog food and supplies because supporting local—and supporting people like Missy—just felt right.
Now she’s become my “chicken whisperer.” She hosted Chick Daze and walked me through everything I needed to know to prepare for baby chicks, which made the whole process feel doable.
The store is hands-down the best place to get chicks, and their prices on supplies, feed, treats, and herbs are comparable—if not better—than online.
It’s more than just a store. My kids never complain about running errands if they know Missy will be there. What started as a quick stop turned into a relationship. I now consider Missy a friend and a trusted go-to for advice. It’s pretty special when a store can feel like that.

Chickadee seed and feed is a wonderful store. They carry unique items along with all the items you need to take care of a variety of pets/animals. I make this a stop for gift buying- they carry many locally produced items (honey, jam, lotions, soaps). The owners are really friendly, knowledgeable and helpful with questions.
Stop by and check it out and say hi to the resident cat. You’ll be glad you did!
