I had a pretty disappointing experience at this Petco vet visit. This is the vaccination clinic not the total care as they are separate but all inside of the petco at this location. The vet herself Lisa Hanelt was fast and gentle while handling my dog, which I appreciated. Hence it’s 2 star rather than 1. However, I was told not to touch my dog at all during the process and that I could only talk to her. I understand that they may have safety procedures they need owners to follow, but my dog was visibly scared. At one point, when no procedure was actually being performed, I simply tapped her nose to help calm her down. The vet immediately told me that if I touched my dog again, she would have to ask me to leave. I found the way this was communicated unnecessarily harsh, especially when I was clearly just trying to comfort my dog who’s absolutely terrified! What bothered me even more was how the nurse, Charlie, handled her. My dog was nervous about having blood drawn and try to hide behind me. Charlie took the leash and essentially dragged her over while she was actively fighting not to go. I understand that blood draws need to be done and that sometimes staff have to be firm, but there was very little effort to make her feel comfortable first. I know my dog, and she’s not aggressive. She did not growl, not show her teeth. She was simply scared. Even something as simple as approaching her more gently, giving her a moment, talking sweetly to her, or trying to gain her trust would have made a huge difference. Instead, the whole interaction felt very transactional, almost like animals were being moved through an assembly line rather than treated as individual pets who may be frightened. What made it more frustrating was that the clinic wasn’t even busy during our visit, so it didn’t feel like they were under pressure to rush us through. The one person I want to specifically recognize is Sam, who checked us in. He was very nice, friendly, and welcoming. I understand veterinary staff have difficult jobs and need to prioritize everyone’s safety, but being efficient and maintaining boundaries doesn’t have to come at the expense of compassion. I really wish there had been more patience and empathy shown toward a clearly frightened dog.

My dog needed yearly heartworm blood test and rabies vac. Update . There were a few dogs ahead of me so I anticipated a wait but the crew at the store sped through the work in no time . I am totally satisfied .
