My partner and I live seasonally in the Berkshires for the Tanglewood season, which often creates a logistical puzzle regarding care for our dog, Argos. Argos is a wonderful companion—sweet, energetic, and deeply compassionate—but he struggles with severe separation anxiety. Prior to finding Hearth and Hound, he had been dismissed from every daycare and overnight facility we tried in Boston. Because of his intense anxiety, he truly only felt safe in our home or his dog walker's home. When we first approached the staff at Hearth and Hound, I was transparent about his history and the intensity of his anxiety. I was at a complete loss, but their response was extraordinary. They told me that even if he "failed" their behavioral assessment, they would support us because they recognized that his behavior stemmed from emotional distress, not aggression, and that he shouldn't be disqualified from having a social life. They also showed deep compassion for me, as my partner was traveling in July and I had no way to get home during the day for Argos's care during some of the most intensive stretches of the Tanglewood schedule. They told me they'd make it work, because they didn't want me carrying that anxiety on top of everything else, and that we could convert daycare days to overnights, without judgment, if I didn't have the capacity to get him during the busiest parts of the season. That compassion changed everything. Argos is now completely in love with Hearth and Hound. He gets the sweetest "daycare report cards," loves playing in the yard, and actually starts "screaming" with excitement the moment we pull into the parking lot. My partner and I joke that we don't even know this dog anymore — the reports we get back describe him as sweet, loving, and kind to every staff member and dog, a happy guy they genuinely love having around. Honestly, it's left us with real questions about other daycares we've tried, ones that seem to treat dogs as a commodity rather than recognizing that many animals simply need compassion and real client care to thrive. We originally only needed care for a few dates in early July, but we've now budgeted to bring him three days a week all summer long. They've become our go-to support, even helping us navigate the logistics around our travel and work plans in the Berkshires. We are so incredibly grateful to have found a place that treats Argos with such patience and kindness. In an age where so much of daily life doesn't involve real community or a real person in a customer-facing role, businesses like this are a reminder of how much that still matters. Supporting a business that genuinely supports you and your animal isn't just a nice-to-have — it's something worth actively seeking out and championing.

If you are looking for loving hands to care for your pet while you are away, look no further than Hearth and Hound! Aleixs and her staff are kind, capable and full of the expertise neded to reassure you that you are leaving your precious pet in good hands. They even send you a "Report Card" on how you pet is doing during the day, coupled with pictures of your pet! As soon as you meet her staff you are reassured that leaving your loved pet in their hands is going to be a worry free experience for you. If I could give Alexis 10 stars I would! Bravo to creating such a warm place for we pet owners to leave our precious buddies!

These folks are the best! We contacted Hearth and Hound at the last minute because my parents’ toy poodle was about to get them kicked out of the hotel they were staying in—she was barking ceaselessly at night. The staff at H&H were flexible and graciously made room for the dog to stay for two overnights (until my parents went home). My dad, who is 92 years old and usually bonded to this poodle like a human barnacle, was able to part ways with his dog for the night once he learned of how highly trained the staff is (featuring someone trained as a human nurse and multiple vet techs). Of course, my dad couldn’t be without his beloved dog for 48 hours, so after the first night we picked up the pup in the morning, adventured around the Berkshires, then dropped her off at H&H again so my parents could sleep through the night and not be evicted from the hotel. The dog was healthy and happy, the humans got some sleep, and we all had a fabulous weekend thank to this kennel!
