I was transferring my dog to UVH for a blood transfusion. Alexis took her history leading up to us coming in, which started with a UTI and then incontinence, and then a seizure, with critically high kidney levels and near anemia. Dr. Gregorio then came in take a look, ask a few questions, and took her for an ultrasound. Unfortunately, it did show a very large bladder tumor that was blocking her urethra, preventing her from emptying it, leading to the elevated kidney levels. It was pretty severe, and my dog was miserable. Before the ultrasound, I was prepared to throw everything at it to treat her. However, she was rapidly declining and it was clear she would not make it long enough to get the cancer results back. Just two weeks before, she was running and playing with her sisters, and at the appointment she couldn’t stand on her own. While the outcome was the absolute worst case scenario, I could not be more grateful to Alexis and Dr. Gregorio for the care they gave my dog, giving me a clear understanding of what was wrong, and giving me the peace of mind that a humane euthanasia would be best. They sent me home with some meds to help keep her comfortable and, at UVH’s recommendation, I had Dr. Brown at Gift of Compassion come to my home the next day.
I can’t even begin to thank them for giving me answers, saving me from putting my dog through more pain and suffering, and relieving some of the pain that she was experiencing before we said goodbye.
