  On 10/8/26 around 130pm my husband went to grab our dog’s prescription food he has been on for six years and we have been purchasing exclusively from Petco since day one, The cashier decided he was also the Veterinarian today and wouldn’t scan my dogs prescription food allowance card. The sole purpose is to allow you to purchase the special food. My dog goes to the vet every year and still has the same allergy, hasn’t been reissued a new card and we use this every month for YEARS. It’s literally just a barcode the cashier scans. Nothing more, nothing less. It’s not the actual prescription mind you. So my husband went 20 minutes out of his way to even get to the location for this guy, a sales associate at the counter, to deny his purchase because he “couldn’t read the card and it was dated from the OG visit.” It’s not his job to be reading the card on my pets medical ailment. It’s just to scan the merchandise and ring the sale. This food is also about $160 a bag and I will tell you this, we are not going to be buying the food from Petco anymore. We’ve never had an issue with any of your sales associates at literally any other Chicagoland location. The man’s attitude and how he treated my African-American husband, like his money wasn’t good there, is a BIG problem for us. I’m white and I’ve never had an issue purchasing, so I find it really interesting that when I send my African-American husband to this location we had never been to previously, to purchase the food that we’ve been getting without an issue for YEARS, that now this particular associate decided he wasn’t going to allow my husband to buy the food and the card wasn’t good enough because he couldn’t read it? We’ve never had an issue, because there is no issue. Now my SICK ELDERLY DOG will suffer a delay in eating, my husband has to travel an hour away to another location that actually sells the food that is not available at most stores, and we will never be back. When I go to Vetco, and they issue me the standard protocol way to buy food in petco stores, we do it for six years, and suddenly, a petco associate tries to deny service for a reason they have no business with other than scanning and processing the tender, it sets off a BIG alarm bell for me that something else was afoot here. DO NOT SHOP HERE. RETRAIN YOUR EMPLOYEES BECAUSE WE ARE NOT PUTTING UP WITH THIS BEHAVIOR FROM ANYONE, EVER. With today’s competition between online and the many other pet stores this is not good for business and you will reap what you sow. And that associate is lucky that I was not present and that my husband is a very nice guy because he would’ve been having a bad day if he had to deal with me because I don’t tolerate disrespect like that, ever. It’s extremely shameful to have somebody like that trying to police people’s purchases and frankly just quite bizarre overall.

  Bought 2 betta fish - tanks, food, filters, heaters - one promptly died a little over 30 days from buying the fish. They're pretty expensive and I would think you'd be able to get another fish for one that barely lived.

  2 different points of customer service, these employees dropped the ball. When asking a simple question, the 1st team members reply was snarky...then the 2nd team member proceeds to enforce age restrictions when simply asked about fish stock to my 21 yr old daughter. Thos place always has rude employees... and thats why Pet Smart is better!

  I am what you refer to as a petstore junkie. I've been one since I was a kid and I'm now 73. Kim your fish specialist is "best in class". When I was in high-school I had 30 aquariums but alot has changed. Kim has been my coach and salesperson as I set up a 40 gallon tank. The best of any of the other surrounding stores. I only deal with her. Most of the other places have part time kids who can't find the dog food.

  Why isn’t my dogs food prescription entered in your computer/register?! Clerk was just as frustrated about that as I am!
