  If I could give this place 0 stars. I would. I spent over an hour holding back tears while looking at how awful the conditions of their fish and reptile tanks are. I came to steal a betta from them. Because I cannot stand the thought of contributing to somewhere so inhumane. Half of their bettas clearly had swim bladder. Some of them had the worst fin rot I’ve seen in my life. And most of their little cups were so foggy you couldn’t even see what the fish looked like. And don’t even get me started on their “community tanks” and their reptile enclosures. I understand people don’t view fish and reptiles the same way they do their cuddly furry pets, but they don’t deserve to spend their entire lives in an unfit enclosure, or a CUP ON A SHELF, rotting away. I decided to pay for my fish anyways because I didn’t feel like getting caught stealing. And then I’m met with a condescending attitude from the cashier. Practically insinuating that I wouldn’t be bringing my fish to a good home. I told him I knew what I was doing, trying to hold back from ripping him a new one for the state of their store. And he continued on to condescendingly ask if I “even own water conditioner” 😭 I understand your “job” is to make sure these animals go to good homes. But maybe you should start in your store. I highly recommend to anyone looking to purchase a betta from a big box store like this to either, look elsewhere, or steal it like I should’ve.

  I booked a grooming appointment for my dog through the Petco app at this location. Upon arrival, I was told my appointment needed to be canceled due to an apparent scheduling error in Petco's system, despite the app showing availability. When I politely asked for clarification regarding the cancellation, the check-in associate was unable to provide a clear explanation. I rebooked at the Lincoln Park location and had a much better experience there. However, I later discovered that a block had been placed on my grooming account. This was extremely concerning because my 15-pound Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, who is service dog trained, was never groomed, handled, or even seen by anyone at this location. To my understanding, account restrictions are typically reserved for serious behavioral or safety concerns, none of which applied in this situation. The Lincoln Park salon ultimately had to assist me in removing the block. As a Black woman and pet owner, the entire experience left me feeling profiled and unfairly treated. What should have been a simple appointment cancellation due to a system error turned into an unnecessary and stressful ordeal. I would not recommend this location based on my experience. Thankfully, the Lincoln Park team was professional, helpful, and able to resolve the issue.

  I would like to say Connie was amazing! She was so professional and was the only one there and was able to maintain the register and being able to pick out my fish for me. I will come back because of Connie! Please give her a raise!
