- SWSteven Wimer5 days ago1.0If you love your pet, avoid this place at all costs. My dog I currently limping from a botched toenail trimming. Look on yelp if you need more of a reason to avoid this location. My dog has black nails and I asked for them to be trimmed during his teeth cleaning. They cut half his toenail off, way past the quick. How do you deal with pets daily and not understand that you grind black nails, not cut blindly and then be shocked when he bleeds. They also stopped cutting his toenails after this and still tried to charge me for the nail trimming even though only 1 foot was done.

- BMBryan McSep 3, 20261.0This Banfield location used to be inside the PetSmart on Canal Street. They were a good choice during those years. Then they closed and reopened at this location next to the Dan Ryan. I have had a certified service dog since 2014, and they were always capable of doing the travel paperwork necessary to take the dog overseas. At the PetSmart location I paid about $130 to get their vets signature on the documents. The new location said “the system with the government is different” and they charged me over $700 for this submission to the USDA. You’d expect at least the work would be foolproof and competent! Sadly this new location screwed up the paperwork with the USDA on this occasion in August of 2026, and left me hanging with my required business trip to London. I made the trip without the USDA paperwork solely because of the mistakes Banfield made in the submission. The mistakes were so major that even while overseas the USDA would not issue the entry permit! Fortunately because I had made this trip with my service dog several times previously, the Heathrow Airport Animal authorities had a record of my previous visits and were kind enough to have a local veterinarian review the dog’s health history and clear him for entry - at a cost exceeding $400 MORE. This location has other issues that make it unsuitable for anyone’s pet. The location has only street parking in front and the block is so dangerous with drug addicts and homeless it is scary dangerous. The location requires that animals be left with them all day, in suspect conditions. And Banfield pricing has gone through the roof! There are many reputable independent non-venture capital veterinarians in the South Loop area. Patronize them.

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.

• In-room appointments: You and your pet visit the vet together. Please arrive a few minutes before your appointment time
• Drop-off appointments: If you have a drop-off appointment, we will communicate a time to drop off your pet. Keep your phone nearby and we’ll call you when your pet is ready for pickup.
• Optimum Wellness Plans® Virtual Visits: If you have an Optimum Wellness Plan and scheduled a Virtual Visit, you’ll save valuable time and get quality care from the comfort of your home.
