Worst Vetco Total Care I have ever been to. I would give it 0 stars if I could.
I have been a Vetco Total Care Rewards member for over 2 years. I had taken my dog to multiple locations throughout New York when I was living there and had nothing but great experiences: amazing doctors, amazing care, and attention to detail.
When I moved down to Florida, I brought my dog to the Wellington location twice: once for an ear infection, and a second time for his annual vaccines and bloodwork. Both times I got asked about all my dog's information as if he was a new patient, which I thought was weird because I had never experienced that at any other location. To make it worse, the second time, after being asked all the questions again, I was asked, "Wait, this isn't Paisley?" By the way, my dog was a 2-year-old male Vizsla.
Here is where I really had a problem. My dog had epilepsy (seizures), so every 6 months he needed his phenobarbital levels checked via bloodwork. I came in for his annual vaccines and biannual bloodwork and this location charged me for the phenobarbital test. A week went by with no results and no call.
During that week, my dog had a severe seizure episode, and I had to rush him to the emergency vet. It was only then that I realized Vetco had never sent me his phenobarbital results, which usually take just 2-3 days to come back and are critical for managing his condition.
That day was a Saturday, and their posted hours, both online and in-store, were 8am-6pm. I called multiple times at 8am on Saturday. No response. The emergency vet called. No response. I couldn't believe they were "so busy." After I dropped off my dog, I went to Vetco. It was closed. No one had shown up for the day, despite their posted hours saying they were open. You might be wondering why they didn't open: they don't have a constant doctor at the practice. Which is not the customer's fault. The least they could have done was have someone come in to answer phone.
My dog passed away that Sunday. Do you think I ever got a call back from Vetco about my dog's test results, which were supposed to have been in their possession for over a week? Nope. Instead, they lied and said the lab found out he'd passed away and discarded the test. Funny, considering blood can only be tested for 6 days, and it had been 9.
After a lot of back and forth, the area manager called and admitted fault: they had sent the blood, but not instructions on what to test it for. So now I will never know if his levels were too low or too high. They first offered me store credit, very tone-deaf, may I add, since my dog is gone. How insensitive can you be? They did eventually offer me my money back, but the fact remains: if I hadn't called, they would have:
Never checked for the lab results and kept the money
Never showed any attention to detail or care, clearly they didn’t think it was necessary to call me back after I left voicemails, because my dog was gone, so what was the point, right?
I am sure they realized their mistake, yet, still had the audacity to lie to my face, knowing they hadn't requested the test and that the blood was no longer viable, which is basic medical knowledge.
Although the area manager helped us get our money back for a test that was never done, I don't think this is an experience any pet owner or loyal customer should go through.
