- DLDonna LewisSep 24, 20261.0I rarely give a poor review. Sending this so others are aware. My 12 week old puppy was seen at Banfield on a Sunday because I adopted him on a Saturday and he hadn't been to the vet yet. I had records of his vaccines but wanted him to be checked for any issues before bringing him around any other animals. The problems: (1) He was given a clean bill of health including a local fecal exam on Sunday. I called Monday to get documentation showing he was healthy in case the airline requested it and was told I needed to have him brought back in because the Sunday vet was a "relief vet" and he would need to be seen by the non-relief doctor. This was a worry. (2) I asked about the flea medicine I was given because I checked online and noticed it was meant for dogs of at least 16 weeks of age. The vet said the "relief vet" saw him and didn't advise. The person answering the phone assured me it's safe for younger dogs. Lastly and most concerning (3) I opted to pay an additional $78 to have the fecal sample sent to a separate lab for a more in-depth analysis. I was told the results would be back in days and "no news was good news". I didn't hear of any worries. I decided today, four weeks later, to call just to see because I would have expected something. I was told that actually a highly transmittable parasite was found, giardia, and to stop by to start him on medicine. The puppy hasn't shown any sign of issue, and I've allowed him to be around other family pets thinking he was fine. He's gone untreated for four weeks and if I didn't call in I don't know if I ever would have found this out. I've received LOTS of advertisement emails from Banfield since the visit, but not one that told me there was an issue. I was grateful originally to have been able to find a Sunday appointment but I would have been better off waiting one more day to work with a vet that would have been more thorough.

As a 1st time pet owner I thought I'd feel overwhelmed, so I find it very appreciative that they call to remind me when a visitation is due, which makes you feel valued as a client. The portal system that they use is also very comprehensive, it lets you see all your pet's details/information on there There is also a PetSmart connected to it aswell, simply making it convenient all around. I've been recomending them to family and friends and glad I discovered this pet hospital

What is an Optimum Wellness Plan?
Optimum Wellness Plans are designed to provide annual preventive care. They include head-to-tail exams, vaccines, early screening diagnostics, consultations for proper nutrition, dental care and more! Since wellness plans are not insurance, they do not include treatment for unpredictable or abnormal conditions, however discounts would apply. Because pets need ongoing preventive care, wellness plans automatically renew at the end of each twelve month period (unless paid in full at enrollment).
How do I pay for an Optimum Wellness Plan?
You can spread the cost of your wellness plan across the 12 months of your annual agreement to make it easier to budget for the essential health care your pet needs. Your monthly payments can be automatically withdrawn from a checking or savings account or charged to a credit card so that you don’t have to worry about them once you enroll. We also offer the option of paying in full if you prefer.
