I normally don’t leave reviews like this, but this experience really bothered me.
We had two appointments yesterday, one for our cat and one for our dog, both late in the day. I had actually called earlier because I knew we were going to be getting there close to closing, and the person I spoke to made it sound like it would be fine and told me basically not to worry about it.
My wife and I both had to get away from work, get the cat into her carrier, get the dog ready, load everything up, and drive through traffic on US-19. Anyone with pets knows that getting a cat and dog out the door at the same time is not exactly a 2-minute process.
Our cat was also the main reason we were going. She hasn’t been feeling well.
When we finally got to the Vetco area, we were told we were a few minutes late for the cat’s appointment and that she would not be seen. They said they could still see the dog, but that completely defeated the main reason we had gone there.
What made the situation much worse was the way the employee spoke to us. I kept trying to explain what we had been told over the phone and ask if there was anything they could do, and I was constantly interrupted and talked over. At one point I literally told her I would wait until she was finished talking so I could have a chance to speak. Even my wife finally said something because it was so obvious that I wasn’t being allowed to finish a sentence.
I understand that employees have schedules and I understand that the vet may leave at 6. That’s fine. But then why allow people to book appointments at 5:45 and 5:55 if there is basically zero room for anything to go wrong? And if being a couple minutes late means you lose the appointment completely, that needs to be made extremely clear when someone books, especially when they call ahead and are told not to worry.
We weren’t asking anyone to stay there another hour. We were asking if there was any way to help us after we had brought two animals there, including a sick cat, and were only talking about a few minutes.
Instead, the whole interaction became unnecessarily argumentative.
At that point I told them I didn’t want either appointment anymore because I had lost confidence in the place and didn’t feel comfortable having them care for my animals after being treated that way.
The policy itself is one thing. The lack of basic customer service is what really bothered me.
I hope Petco/Vetco management actually looks into who was working around 5:45-6:00 PM yesterday, listens to what happened, and addresses it. Customers should be able to ask a question or explain a situation without being talked over and treated like they’re a problem.
We left with our sick cat still not seen after rearranging our workday and driving all the way there. That should have been handled a lot better.

I’m so pleased with my experience. My cats were a little nervous around all of the dogs, but it went great overall. The vet and vet tech seemed compassionate and acted like they loved my babies. They were so quick and expertly maneuvered them around in their carriers to prevent them from running.
