  I am a local Delaware resident. I came to Petco in Rehoboth on Saturday, September 26, 2026 with my 5 year old daughter to purchase some goldfish. Regular goldfish documented to be mass sold at petco weekly and farm bred (adding for context and the moral high ground the employees seem to falsely hold). They denied selling me goldfish without investing roughly $400 in supplies. I had a tank in hand and intended to get a small filter on Amazon where supplies are much cheaper. I was ostracized and basically accused of animal cruelty by who I assume was the manager. She then proceeded to state “I will sell you one goldfish, but then you will never be allowed to purchase from this store again”. I stated “how about I purchase nothing”. I placed my items down and walked out. As frequent shopper at that store, it is needless to say I will be not returning. I am a registered nurse. I am a mother. I nearly died twice in August and I’m on medical leave from work. My daughter almost lost her mother. What should have been a positive core memory for my 5 year old daughter turned into a lesson that mean people are simply just mean people. Petco doesn’t document their goldfish loss. According to former employees roughly 15-30% goldfish loss is reported internally. Based on the math of how many are purchased from goldfish farming… not exactly an ethical practice when you’re sitting yourself (directed at this manager) on a false pedestal, between 5.4 million and up to 10.9 million goldfish delivered to petco die within the first week of arrival to the stores in the US. So they kill that many but want to judge the two I wanted to purchase with my 5 year old daughter with the intent to keep alive by having it in an appropriate sized tank, feeding it, and regularly changing the water… make it make sense. So instead we went to petsmart in Rehoboth… we had a wonderful experience. I did notice their tanks were cleaner, their prices were roughly 25% lower than petcos pricing on most fish, cat, and dog items, and most importantly… their manager minded their own freaking business and allowed my daughter to have a positive core memory. So please…. If you want better customer service and way better pricing, head down to petsmart where they withhold their false superiority complex because they know exactly how many fish are lost due to overcrowding in tanks and figure the fish has greater odds in its own tank. I sure hope upper level managers know that petco managers in Rehoboth are costing them money. I’m not exactly a quiet person, so I will be directing all family, friends, and anyone else with animals to petsmart with the above account of events applied. Have the day you deserve.

  Good as usual, but no one was at the counter. I had to wait about three minutes before someone saw me at the counter and checked me out. Perhaps a bell???

  The only pet store anywhere around that sells my ferrets treats. They're a little more pricey there than online but when you need them in a hurry it's good to know you can get them.
