  Petco Store at Christiana Mall is a great location & well stocked store. I order online for pickup at times. The personnel offer to assist with carrying heavy items to our car or offer to help find items. Excellent pet store.

  Honestly one of the worst places. I now go to PetSmart for all my needs. First occasion was about two or so weeks ago when I came in with a friend to find a filter. The normal fish caretaker is away and will be away for a long stretch of time so she came into care of fish not knowing much about fish (myself included). The tank had gotten real murky so we went to buy a new filter not knowing TopFin was a PetSmart specific brand. When I showed the employee (older woman, had her hair in a bun) the tank filter to ask for assistance, she gave a dirty look and told me in a condescending tone that they didn’t carry them after making a disgusted noise. I’ve worked retail - typically if a customer is looking for help but it’s a competitors brand, you’d offer alternatives. The second experience was this past week. I came in for myself as a hermit crab owner. I am well versed in their needs and care and had been struggling with my new tank of maintaining proper humidity. Crabs are a lot of work (skip the boardwalk ones guys!); they require at minimum 6in of substrate that’s made up of coco fiber soil and playsand at approximately a 5:1 ratio. They are burrowing animals and need it deep enough for when they molt, as they are very vulnerable in that state and can pass away. Their humidity should be right around 80%. When I approached the brunette woman with her hair in a ponytail she was checking inventory at the end of the aisle. I asked her for recommendations, hoping she could point me in the direction of a small stone bubbler or other system to create more humidity. She then proceeded to tell me more or less that she didn’t know how to help me and began to rudely explain (incorrect) crab care as if she were talking to a child. She had told me with a nasty tone that crabs need to be misted 3x a day (wrong! that can cause fungal issues and bacteria blooms as well as potential substrate flooding), that they don’t need coco fiber and only need just enough sand to survive (also wrong! see above for why), and then told me that “you know you should really have salt and freshwater in your tank”. Ma’am. I know that. My crabs do have both. I’m trying to increase the humidity above 70% and instead you want to lecture me on improper husbandry? Insane. I then went to PetSmart by the Christiana hospital and lo and behold, I got someone to find me a lid that had better coverage and my humidity is doing great now. They also helped find up a filter and took the time to explain to us how my friend can take care of her fish in the meantime. Terrible experience - I guess maybe if you’re not rude to customers they take you out back and beat you or something 🙄🙄🙄🙄
