  If I could give this place negative stars, I would. One star is honestly far too generous for the experience we had today. My mom brought our two dogs to the Torrington Petco for a scheduled grooming appointment that included nail clipping, ear cleaning, and teeth brushing. We have been bringing our dogs to this location for grooming since they were very young, so we trusted them to treat our dogs properly. Normally, we would book the appointment with Vicky since she’s the only person there with a brain but she wasn’t there today. One of our dogs gets nervous when going into Petco. He has ALWAYS been a very mellow, friendly dog, but he can become anxious in that environment. Instead of showing patience or understanding, the employee became aggravated with my mom because our dog was nervous and had to be picked up to be placed on the grooming table. Then the employee asked if he was taking any medications. My mom explained that he takes medication for anxiety. Suddenly, we were told they could not groom him because he takes medication. Seriously?! After years of bringing our dogs there, this was suddenly a problem? Then the employee told my mom that she could bring him back another day if she stopped giving him his medication for 24 hours. That is an absolutely ridiculous and irresponsible suggestion. My mom obviously refused because you should not be abruptly stopping a prescribed medication just because a grooming appointment doesn't want to deal with a dog who takes it. And somehow, the situation got even worse because there was a complete misunderstanding of what my mom said. My mom was explaining why stopping medication abruptly could potentially be dangerous, and the employee apparently misunderstood and thought our dog has seizures. The lack of communication and basic professionalism was unbelievable. And let's make this very clear: they gave my mom a hard time about his anxiety medication then proceeded to do an awful job with the services. My mom was treated with absolutely no respect. The attitude was unacceptable, the communication was terrible, and the entire interaction was handled in the most unprofessional way possible. If you work in pet grooming, patience and understanding should be the bare minimum, especially when dealing with an anxious animal. We've also had several disappointing experiences with this grooming department in the past. The service is consistently poor, the staff is often rude, and there seems to be very little professionalism. The ONLY person I can genuinely say has been great is Vicky. She is friendly, professional, and actually knows how to treat both customers and their pets. Unfortunately, one good employee does not make up for the rest of the department. My mom did not tip, obviously, because there was nothing to tip for. Our dog didn’t even receive good treatment EVEN with paying for the appointment which I think is very ridiculous. After YEARS of bringing our dogs here, we will NEVER be coming back. I would strongly recommend looking elsewhere if you actually expect your pet to be treated with patience, respect, and basic professionalism. Negative stars if I could. Absolutely embarrassing customer service.

  I have to say, I was very impressed. We live in Florida and visiting Connecticut for a couple of months. Have a cockapoo who needs grooming monthly and a friend recommended Petco. We got the full treatment for our dog Gidget. The woman who groomed her was fantastic! She made Gidget comfortable before grooming, I knew we were in good hands. She did a fantastic job! I will definitely go here again when out of town!
