I’m giving the Southington Petco location three out of five stars. We interacted with four staff members during our visit, and everyone was generally friendly, helpful, and informative.
However, one interaction with a member of the veterinary team made me uncomfortable. Because Augustin is extremely attached to me, my son and I stepped away while he received his vaccines, while my partner remained with him to provide support. A comment was then made to my partner that seemed to imply I had simply left or abandoned my dog during an uncomfortable moment. That felt unfair and unnecessarily judgmental.
After looking further into low-stress veterinary care, I understand that whether an owner remains present should be based on the individual dog, the owner, and the circumstances—not treated as a one-size-fits-all rule. Our decision was made out of concern for Augustin’s comfort, and he was never left alone.
I also would have appreciated clearer, itemized information about the individual vaccines and their prices before being directed toward a package. I wanted Augustin fully vaccinated and up to date, and the staff ultimately allowed us to select the option we preferred. Still, the initial upselling felt a little uncomfortable and somewhat rushed.
Overall, the visit was not terrible, and most of the staff made us feel comfortable and supported. However, the judgmental comment and the sales approach affected the experience enough for me to give three stars. I would go back.
