  Dr Loyer saved my baby’s life 💘 I am beyond grateful he was next door to Northside and that fate brought us there in an emergency. He is so kind and gentle, and he created a bond with my lil girl Piper, it was so special 💖 I would recommend Dr Loyer for cardiology to anyone!! (Sorry for the delay in posting a review!)

  I’m writing this review with a truly heavy heart, and I feel like my intuition should’ve preceded the route I actually took at Dr. Loyer’s advisement. My 16 year old dog recently passed and I see no other explanation other than the guidance of this cardiologist. Chico has been dealing with Stage C Congestive heart failure for about 4 months now. The typical prognosis is ~1 year or more with good treatment. Upon visiting this cardiologist at the recommendation of the attached ER, Dr. Loyer explained his concern was with Chico’s kidneys and not his heart condition at the moment. While the heart was managed well, Dr. Loyer found that he’d had extremely high BUN and CREA values, typically a side effect of the diuretics taken in CHF patients. I did make note that Chico had recently gotten into some foods that he should not have which are notorious for also spiking these levels. The entire concept was completely blown off, as his entire perception was that Chico had reveled such acute kidney failure that diuretics would likely not sustain with diuretics any longer. Instead Dr. Loyer’s recommendation was to completely remove the diuretics from the regiment for a week as a test period. Now you can understand my skepticism on this as this is a piece of what is considered the “Golden Trio” of CHF treatment. Nonetheless I figured to follow this plan. After all we’d spent thousands on an oxygen cage and at home emergency medicine in case needed, so we theoretically had a strong parachute to work with. About 5 days in, Chico experienced a flareup that would be his last. Chicos fluid retention from no medicine had ultimately led to untreatable blood clots within his lungs that otherwise would likely not have occurred while on medicine. During the ER visit on Chico’s final day, bloodwork conducted demonstrated he’d seen a reduction of BUN >130 down to 41. This is not the sign of acute kidney failure, and clearly (while maybe struggling) his kidney’s would have managed for strong period of time with diuretics. He’d managed at a 61 in the past just fine. Dr. Loyer’s plan for my dog was a mistake that ultimately cost him everything. I strongly advise anyone to be cautious with what they agree to with their pet, always ask questions and never do anything they’re not comfortable with.

  We brought our young dog in for a cardiac evaluation. Dr. Loyer was outstanding. He took the time to go over the results of his exam and provided us with a lot of useful information about our dog’s genetic predisposition to MVD. I highly recommend Dr. Loyer - he was thorough, professional and addressed all our questions and concerns.
