We’ve been bringing our two dogs and three cats to Berthoud Animal Hospital for the past two years, and I truly cannot say enough wonderful things about Dr. Stone, Dr. Shaheen, and every member of their team. The level of compassion, knowledge, and genuine care they’ve shown our family has been exceptional.
Three of our pets have had more complex medical needs, and every step of the way we’ve felt supported, informed, and never rushed.
Our one cat, Birdie, began having litter box issues that appeared to be interstitial cystitis. The team developed a treatment plan with Hill’s prescription food through their Hills to Home program along with monthly injections to reduce inflammation. She’s doing so much better now and has successfully transitioned off both the prescription food and injections. It turns out she just needed a few adjustments at home to accommodate a little extra “cattitude!”
Our senior dog, Topher, has had the most challenging journey. When he began showing signs of a UTI, testing and imaging revealed what Dr. Stone feared could be a bladder mass. Waiting to find out whether it was cancer or something else was incredibly emotional. Dr. Shaheen performed surgery just a few days later, and we were beyond relieved to learn it was calcium oxalate bladder stones rather than a tumor.
Over the past year, we’ve worked closely with the team through prescription food, diet changes, routine monitoring, and unfortunately the stones eventually returned. Instead of simply jumping straight back to surgery, Dr. Shaheen recommended acupuncture and herbal supplements to support his overall health and his urinary and digestive systems. While these treatments can’t dissolve calcium oxalate stones, the difference in Topher has been remarkable. He has so much more energy, acts years younger, and we’ve been able to safely monitor his condition rather than rushing into another surgery. Even if surgery is ultimately inevitable, I truly believe these holistic treatments have given him an incredible foundation that we’ll continue long-term. The compassion, creativity, and dedication Dr. Stone, Dr. Shaheen, and the entire team have shown throughout his journey have meant more to us than words can express.
We also recently transferred our other dog, Luna, to Berthoud Animal Hospital. During her annual wellness exam, routine bloodwork revealed hypothyroidism. Dr. Shaheen has worked closely with us to adjust her medication, and it’s been amazing to watch Luna regain her energy and see her coat growing back. Looking back, we feel terrible not knowing how long she’d been living with it, and we’re incredibly grateful it was finally identified.
One thing we appreciate most is that the team always takes the time to explain what they’re seeing, discuss every option, and make us feel like partners in our pets’ care. We never feel like just another appointment on the schedule.
Berthoud Animal Hospital has cared for all five of our babies with so much kindness, patience, and expertise. Knowing we have a team we completely trust gives us incredible peace of mind. We are so grateful to have them in our corner, and we wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone looking for truly exceptional veterinary care.

I had such a great experience with Dr. Fry and the team. They were incredibly thorough, kind, and thoughtful with Breck’s care. I really appreciated how much time was taken to explain his exam findings, treatment options, supplements, exercise plan, and next steps in a way that felt clear and manageable.
It means so much to have a team that truly listens, understands my goals for keeping Breck comfortable and active, and takes the time to create a plan specific to him. I left feeling supported, informed, and hopeful about helping him enjoy all of his summer adventures. Highly recommend this clinic, especially for anyone looking for compassionate and detailed care for a mobility or sports medicine case.
