  My perfect dog is now terrified of going to be groomed. She doesn’t even look like a labradoodle now. She had some small mats under her ears. Don’t know why she looks like a Lorax after a bad night.

  Absolutely unacceptable experience at Petco Grooming in Vista. I will never use this location again. I had booked grooming appointments for my two Golden Retrievers approximately two weeks in advance because I was preparing to move across the country. For one of my dogs, I responsibly disclosed in his check-in notes that he has recurring ear infections (something that had never prevented him from being groomed before). My dog had actually been seen by his veterinarian that same morning. When we arrived, the grooming salon was extremely busy and appeared overbooked. After we patiently waited to check in, they suddenly tried to refuse my dog because of the ear infection I had disclosed. I explained that we had literally just come from the vet and offered to call them. I got Banfield on the phone, and my dog’s veterinarian personally spoke to the Petco employee and explicitly confirmed that he was completely fine to be groomed and that there was no issue with even cleaning his ears. That should have ended the conversation. Instead, the manager came out with an incredibly rude and confrontational attitude and decided that a veterinarian personally giving them clearance somehow wasn’t sufficient. She then demanded a handwritten note from the vet. Fine. I called Banfield AGAIN. They were themselves confused about why Petco was demanding written documentation after the veterinarian had already personally spoken with the salon, but they provided the written clearance Petco demanded. So, to recap: Petco was given verbal clearance directly from my dog’s veterinarian, refused to accept it, demanded written veterinary clearance instead, received that too, and then ultimately groomed him anyway. The entire ordeal delayed our appointment by roughly 45 minutes. At that point, it was extremely difficult not to get the impression that the salon was overbooked and simply looking for a reason not to honor our appointment. But somehow it gets worse. I have since moved to New York and discovered that I can no longer book my dog’s grooming appointments through the Petco app. His profile now tells me that, based on his “personalized needs and previous appointment history,” I have to call a salon to make an appointment. I had NEVER had this issue before the Vista appointment. So after I responsibly disclosed a recurring medical condition, produced my dog’s actual veterinarian on the phone, obtained written veterinary clearance when the manager demanded it, and ultimately had him groomed without incident, I now apparently have to deal with an additional restriction on his Petco grooming profile. I have been a longtime Petco grooming customer with two well-behaved Golden Retrievers. I understand and respect grooming salons having legitimate safety policies. What I do not respect is moving the goalposts after a veterinarian has already cleared an animal, treating a customer with hostility for attempting to comply with every demand, and then potentially leaving that customer to deal with consequences on their account afterward. I have escalated this to Petco corporate and requested that they review exactly what the Vista salon entered into my dog’s grooming history and explain why his online booking ability has subsequently been restricted. There are plenty of places to have your dogs groomed. Based on the way we were treated here, I would strongly recommend choosing one of them.

  They took care of our pup so well. The team gives him pets and snuggles so he can feel comfortable before heading inside. Our pup doesn't love to be crated but for some reason, he doesn't mind at Petco Vista. We also don't feel rushed when we're there. Thank you, Petco Vista!
