Terrible inventory at this store! A huge number of out-of-stock items. Avoid coming here if you're expecting to find everything on your shopping list.

My 6-year-old autistic son has been fascinated with sea creatures. He was eager to get one, so I took him to a Petco near our church in Eagle Rock. I decided it was better to return later with his father to help him make the choice. He wasn't thrilled about that, but the "first this, then that" approach usually helps calm him down. Later that afternoon, we went to a restaurant in North Hollywood that happened to have a Petco nearby, but it was closing, so we looked for the closest one on our way home — this location. At first, everything was fine, even though he was getting very anxious and impatient. We kept him calm while asking Madelline, the associate, for advice on tank size, fish types, and more. She was very attentive and patient until another associate—whose name I didn't catch but who seemed to be "the fish expert" according to Madelline— approached us. He walked up with an attitude, visibly annoyed by my son's curiosity. My son wanted a betta fish and was grabbing one of the plastic containers they come in, shaking it at one point. The man was so angry that he told us he wouldn’t serve us anymore. I asked why, but he just puffed up and looked away. I explained that my son is only 6, has autism, and many things he can't understand yet, but he simply said, "Still, I can always refuse the service. I am not selling you any fish". I thanked him, and we left. My son had a meltdown in the parking lot—as expected—but we managed it. It broke my heart to see how sad he was all the way home😥. We tried to explain everything to him in a way he could understand, without making him feel guilty, but honestly, I never expected to receive this kind of treatment at a pet store, so rude!! The world needs to be kinder.
