We initially chose Shingle Springs Vet because our French Bulldog had a seizure, and the first visit was wonderful. The staff was friendly, and the doctor was thorough, pleasant, and didn't push unnecessary tests. We felt so confident that we made them our primary vet and scheduled her spay.
Unfortunately, the post-surgery experience was very different. After the spay, I had concerns about her activity level, but the after-care phone numbers provided did not work. When I reached out to the clinic, I called multiple times and was told "emergencies" were taking priority over my recovering fur baby.
I felt completely dismissed and lacked any sense of compassion from the front desk when calling with concerns the day after my dog's spay. It took three days of calling to finally get a callback. For the extra $170 spent on pre-surgery testing, I expected better communication; I still haven't even been told the results of those tests. While the vet is great, the lack of post-op care and empathy made this an incredibly overwhelming and stressful experience.
Update: I am lowering my rating following the owner’s response, which shows a disappointing lack of accountability and honesty regarding the timeline of events.
While the owner claims we were contacted in an "appropriate" timeframe, the facts say otherwise. My dog had surgery on Friday, April 17th. We began reaching out that same evening with urgent concerns. We called Shingle Springs Vet multiple times on Saturday the 18th and again on Sunday the 19th. During this entire window, we were dismissed by the front desk.
The technician who assisted with the surgery did not contact us until Monday afternoon (April 20th)—three days after our initial plea for help. While I understand the technician had issues with her work phone, the office had three days to bridge that gap by simply calling her personal line to alert her to our concerns. They failed to do so.
By Sunday evening, we were exhausted and considering an emergency vet because we didn't feel heard and were terrified of breed-specific breathing complications. Receiving a call to "pick up medication" from someone who couldn't answer clinical questions was not an "appropriate" response after 48 hours of silence.
I have time-stamped call logs and texts that confirm this delay. Shifting the blame onto a worried pet owner instead of acknowledging a clear breakdown in communication is unprofessional. Where is the empathy and accountability?

I am very disappointed. I used to come here years ago with Dr.B wonderful guy. I told the receptionist that my dog had split his tooth and if they could and take care of the problem, kind of find out they just wanted the examination money and they referred me out with no treatment options unfortunately. The young new vet that was there is rather refer out or be honest that they did not have the facility to help me so I ended up having to pay not only of that but having to go to an animal hospital, I think that they need to reevaluate if they want to continue their old clientele if it’s a dog tooth and they have no way of x-ray in it or even fixing it that they should not even bother making an appointment for me and just tell me on the phone honestly we don’t take care of those things but that’s not what happens so they take your money and refer out that is not the kind of place. I’m going to take my brand new puppy too. I’m very disappointed. .

The appointment today was dis appointing. To take off work and vet bill is double issue but I love my dog so not an issue. Just that I felt I was not getting the attentive urgency taking the time off work to care for my dog. I was told it would be an easy in and easy out but was very slow over 1 hour just to get a dog exam and knew it would take longer for the prescription, xray, and etc. I had to get back to work. Drive from placerville to sac then back to placerville to shingle spring then placerville then back to sac. The sad thing is I do know the people care and I like Dr. Water. Very frustrating
