I brought my 11 month old dog, at this location for a microchip. At the beginning, everything seemed fine. Unfortunately, the experience became extremely upsetting after Dr. Gurtej Sarai administered the microchip.
I know the needle was very large, and my dog’s back started bleeding significantly after the injection. I understand that some bleeding can happen after a procedure, but my dog was continuing to bleed, so I immediately asked if they had gauze or a cotton ball that could be used to apply pressure to the area.
I was told they did not provide gauze there. I want to thank the assistant, Jovani, who was holding my dog. He was trying to help by applying pressure to the bleeding area with his gloved thumb. Jovani also asked Dr. Sarai about gauze, and Dr. Sarai said they don’t provide it.
Dr. Sarai then went to get a paper towel, but he was moving very slowly while my dog was still bleeding. I became worried and said, “Please hurry up because my dog keeps bleeding.” I was even trying to have a small piece of the paper towel so I can help to apply pressure on the bleeding site. His response to me was, “Shut up. I know what I’m doing.” I was shocked and extremely upset by the way I was spoken to. I was a worried pet owner trying to make sure my dog was okay. I was not verbally abusive or behaving unprofessionally, despite what was written in the visit summary. That was false documentation I was concerned because my dog was bleeding and I felt that my concerns were not being taken seriously.
As a pet owner, I believe I have every right to ask questions and express concern when my dog is bleeding after a procedure. I expected professionalism, reassurance, and compassion not to be told to “shut up.”
I want to give credit to, Cassidy, the store manager, who showed concerned and handled the situation professionally. Cassidy listened to me, showed empathy, and genuinely cared about my concerns. She was the only person who made me feel heard and respected during this experience.
Unfortunately, this experience completely destroyed my confidence in this location. I will never bring my dog back to this Vetco location if Dr. Gurtej Sarai is the veterinarian performing the procedure.
This was an extremely upsetting experience, and I hope management takes my concerns seriously and reviews what happened.
