I went in to exchange some fish. First- they had tiger barbs with angelfish. Anyone who *actually* knows anything about those two fish would know that they are incompatible as barbs are naturally aggressive fin nippers. Secondly, the Glofish tanks had stagnant and all of the fish were gasping at the top of the tanks for air. I’ve been to this store several times, and while the remodel is rather impressive, my experience with the staff left me frustrated. I do not remember the cashier’s name, but the was extremely sweet and clearly perturbed by the MOD, Chrissa. Which brings me to my last and most profound issue aside from the clear, lackluster care of these fish. Chrissa or Carissa, I cannot remember her exact name, however she is a manager and I was made aware of that. I walked into the fish section looking for replacement fish for the angelfish that I had purchased a few days ago because they had died. The area was empty of staff, but that isn’t particularly surprising as it is a Tuesday evening and the store was slow. I walked to the cashier and asked if someone could assist me with some fish. She kindly obliged. I was rudely acknowledged by this woman, Chrissa. She essentially had a “What do you want!?” Kind of vibe- almost like she was irritated that I needed help with some fish. I pointed out the common knowledge that barbs and angelfish shouldn’t be kept together because, as I visually pointed out, they were attacking and biting the fins of the angels in the tank. Her immediate and snarky response was “I’ll take it up with corporate, that’s not my job!” She then angrily single-bagged my fish and rudely said “THEY WILL BE AT THE FRONT WAISTING FOR YOU!” I was quite taken aback and instead of looking around to thoroughly check out the remodel and shop for my several other pets- I just wanted to leave. Under her breathe I could hear say that I don’t know what I’m talking about when it comes to fish. I’ve had aquariums for 30 years. I have several aquariums right now and am currently toying around with unique Angelfish variations. As the Electric Green Glo Angelfish just hit the market on July 25th I was eager to get my hands on them. Petco is one of the only places they can be purchased right now. So for the fish I had purchased from another store to die in quarantine was extremely disappointing. I called around to all the local Petcos and made a special trip up to this one specifically to replace my Glo Angelfish. All three of them died, but I only told her two because I didn’t want the other green angelfish in the tank as it was clearly stressed with clamped fins and bites taken form it’s sides and fins. I spoke with the cashier and explained the situation and asked if I could speak to a manager about my experience. She refunded one of the fish and I took the other two home with me after disclosing that the woman that had “helped” me was the manager on duty. Because Chrissa single-bagged the fish, the bag leaked in my lap and left a giant wet mark around my crotch area. Overall, I don’t think I will ever go out of my way to visit this Petco ever again. What a truly heartbreaking experience for such a beautifully remodeled store.
