This 5 stars is genuine. Way to go Pet Zone team, for making the most gorgeous shop I have ever seen.
The aquascape displays are absolutely jaw dropping and inspiring. And what I personally think every hobbyist tropical tank should aspire too!
Would love to learn about those builds top to bottom - literally!
People who want to be successful in brick and mortar aquarium shops - should take notes!!

Staff are all super cool and knowledgeable.

I have gone to this shop many times over the years, and I always felt that the stock had mainly catered to the type of fish you might see in an Asian restaurant aquarium.
This shop is no longer like that, and I’d say 80% of their stock can be kept in 40 gallons and less. Which is definitely my cup of tea.
Genetics, variety, and tank health seem all A1!
I have been to every single shop in the San Diego, and I highly recommend this be your first stop - for standards sake.

I have one peeve. And I’m okay with removing this section, just wanted to bring it up. Because I’ve been shopping in aquarium stores for 20 years.
My spouse picked up a batch of fish, and she is rather new to the hobby, and was paying closer attention to colors than other possibly health indicators. I don’t blame her, the fish was stunning color wise. And I’m used to seeing colors being greatly affected by fish health.
Though when she brought it home, I immediately after close inspection noticed fin tattering, sunken eyes, and extreme emancipation. But with the size of the fish, and how bright he was, I don’t blame anyone for not noticing the details.
I did everything by the book, to keep the fella alive, but to no avail. Steady decline till death.
I called in, explained my situation, and was told to bring it in for an exchange for same species.
(Mind you, now I’m worried that this particular batch of this species could all be affected, or the fish in that tank in general.)
But, I figured it was their policy and sop, so that’s fine and I can work with that.
Upon bringing it in with my spouse, everyone was cool, BUT there were some comments that made the exchange seem like they don’t actually do that, but they were making an exception. And that it wasn’t super cool on our part to even ask or expect it.
And there was a comment of how the symptoms pointed to parasites.
So it led me to question, like am I going to get absolutely cooked here buying an expensive batch of shrimp or fish, if they turn out to be sick or to weak to transfer, and die? Even if it’s in same week I bought them?
I understand that these shops deal with a range of skill levels and experience. And it’s probably very difficult to figure out an SOP for this.
Though I personally don’t want to leave a shop, feeling uncomfortable. Like we were pressing boundaries, by asking for an exchange on a dead fish sold with pre-conditions.
I hope a strategy can be found, where an experienced hobbyist is not feeling uncomfortable with their experience at such an awesome shop. Especially under these circumstances.
Keep in mind, the guy buying $50-$100 of items at your shop today, might be the same guy coming back to your shop for a much larger order, and sending all their friends. Because of their customer experience.
Final note,
The exchange I received is doing absolutely fantastic. Very active. Fins are on point, and after a day, he’s brighter than he was in the store.
Thank you for looking out! And I’m looking forward to my next shopping trip ☺️
