Ordered a birdcage for my daughter’s birds, which for lack of assembly instructions took us a while to assemble. When finally assembled, we realized it was greatly damaged, with bent bars and paint chipping all over, which is toxic for birds. The store refused to work with us, online too. All I asked for was a replacement. After years of being a faithful customer, it is a shame this is how they treat me. Will be taking my business elsewhere.

I received an item as a gift that I simply wanted to do an even exchange for, but the staff flat-out refused because I didn’t have the original receipt or the purchaser's phone number. I wasn't asking for cash back or a refund—just a simple exchange for an item that is actively sitting on their shelves in brand-new condition. Expecting someone to ruin a gift by tracking down the buyer for proof of purchase just to swap a product is ridiculous. Most major retailers offer basic store credit or equal-value exchanges in these situations, but Petco would rather lose a customer than show an ounce of flexibility. Save yourself the headache and take your business elsewhere.
