I rarely leave negative reviews, but I felt this experience needed to be shared because of how I was treated today. It's not okay.
When I walked into the store, an employee was standing at the entrance. She didn't greet me. While that wasn't a major issue for me, I am used to being greeted when I enter the store, and it ended up setting the tone for my interaction with her later.
After picking up my items, I went to the register where an older gentleman helped me. I entered my phone number on the payment screen, as customers are prompted to do (I wasn't asked for my account barcode from my phone). As he scanned my items, I asked if he could see any coupons in my account, he said no. I checked my Petco app and could see that I did have coupons, but they weren't appearing on his end.
After a couple of minutes, it seemed to me that he was having trouble finding them, so I asked the same female employee for help. She was standing just a few feet away. She looked at me, said nothing, walked over to assist him, and was able to show him how to apply the coupons.
After my purchase was complete, as I was about to start walking out, she told me not to enter my phone number next time because I "might have two accounts." I told her I only have one account, but she kept insisting. Since she raised the issue, I asked her to check because I shop there every other week and wanted to avoid the same problem in the future.
As she walked back to the register to check whether I actually had two accounts, I asked if I should enter my phone number, since that's how I had originally tried to access my account and my coupons hadn't appeared. She said no.
She instead scanned the barcode from my phone and then said the account belonged to a "Kimberly Ramirez." I corrected her because that isn't my last name and asked to see the screen. She turned it toward me, and it clearly displayed my phone number and my correct last name, not Ramirez. I let her know that she had misread my last name. She then, as she pointed to my last name on the screen, replied, "That's what you put there." I responded, "Yes, because that's my last name. You said Ramirez." I repeated myself, but once again, she said nothing to me and never acknowledged her mistake.
As I gathered my things again to leave, she still insisted that I should not enter my phone number and should only have the barcode scanned. Since she had just confirmed I only had one account, I was now confused as to why she kept on insisting for me not to enter my phone number manually. I asked, "Then why does the payment screen and cashiers prompt customers to enter their phone number if that might create an issue of coupons not reflecting on the screen?" Instead of answering my question, she responded, "Get out of my store!"
Honestly, I was not shocked by her rudeness and unprofessionalism because of her demeanor towards me since I walked into the store. I was only trying to understand why my coupons weren't showing up and tried to resolve an issue that she herself brought up.
I hope management reads this review because no customer should be treated this way. Equally concerning is an employee or manager who refuses to acknowledge when they've made a mistake, as that only creates unnecessary conflict and reflects poorly on the store. Mind you, I am a Perks Premier account member.
The older gentleman, who I believe is named Paul, helped me and was polite. He did his best to resolve the issue. Unfortunately, the female employee's behavior completely overshadowed the entire experience. She should keep her personal problems out of her workplace. And the technical issue of why my coupons didn't appear after manually entering my phone number never got resolved.
This happened today in the Monrovia location around 3:35-40 p.m. I do remember meeting the manager of the store once, and she was great. This female employee was not her. No customer should leave a store feeling negatively about returning to a place they frequent.
